umbilical cord

hi i am 22 weeks and i am having a baby girl...when i had my ultrasound they told me my cord only has 1 artery and 1 vein. i am missing one... I am worried about hazel if she will get enough food...does anyone else have this or know anything??? love jess

a friend of mine has that same thing and her baby boy is completely healthy, she's due on may 24 and has had no complications!

I don't mean to scare you or anything, and please note what I'm about to say is no definite that it will happen to your child.

So now that I've gotten through the disclaimer, I have a friend whose daughter just turned 6 months a few weeks ago. When she was a fetus, she only had 1 artery in the umbilical cord and I believe their doctor said her birth defects were because of it, but I'm not sure. I can imagine it may have some sort of consequence on your child, but I doubt anything life threatening. My friend's daughter is just deaf and has something else wrong that I can't think of right now.
