Speech therapy for 7 month old.
posted 2nd Aug '12
My husband and I just had a meeting with our local Early Childhood intervention for our 7 month old. We were told that she was chosen because of her speech. S she can only say things with the "a" sound in them. She uses no other vowels. They also said they will work on what they call "siding". She uses her left side over her right. It's much harder for her to uses her right side of her body.
We are not sure what to except and where hoping someone could give us an idea of what could go on from here.

I am appalled at this. I really am.

I think it's silly to send a 7 month old to speech therapy, personally.

Erm............ your child is 7 months. What you're describing is not abnormal.

Speech therapy at 7 months old!? My son is 20 months old and still isn't using very many words. At his 2 year well check, we will discuss speech therapy if he hasn't picked up more words by then.

Are there other things going on that would prompt this? I see it's posted in SN.

Yeah, my 7 month old could only say mama and dada. Some don't say anything. They are babies, they are not supposed to be able to talk yet.

They are think choosing left side over her right might have something to do with it. That the muscles in her mouth could be effected. They are also worried because of other health issues she has had in the past.

A 7 month old? The baby I nanny is 6.5 months and he stills cries and screams, no sounds at all except cooing. Speech shouldn't be a concern until there closer to 2.

I am not really sure what you can expect..I really am unsure of what speech therapy they can give to a 7 month old?
As for her body, they will probably prompt her to use one side over the other? I really don't know. I am just confused

WTF? My daughter will be 10 months, doesn't say anything and still isn't crawling on her hands and knees. There is nothing wrong with your baby.

wow, I really wouldn't suggest speech till at LEAST 18 months.. she still has lots of time to learn.. My son started speech therapy right at 2 and people thought that was early

I'm sorry... but speech therapy for an infant is one of the most absurd things I've ever heard.
