cord blood

posted 15th May
so all over TLC they're talking about cord blood and how it can save your childs life if they get really sick.i was looking up some articles on it on the internet just to get more info on it, but i was wondering how many ppl actually do save the cord blood and what you're thoughts on it were. I never knew about it till TLC. So is it really that popular? and is it a good thing to consider?

We want to do it but it seems to be pretty expensive. If I can't afford to bank it, I would donate it for stem cell research. Thats my op tho. Good luck <3

The cost is usually the banking storage fees...to keep it in the cryo-freezers and all of the prep, etc. Like anything else, they need to make their money too, I guess. I know they do have monthly payment plans, tho.

I to have looked into it and have wondered why the heck did I not know about it before. And if that could save a child with lukemia (sp?) then why have they just tossed that cord in the garbage with the placenta? I mean even if I couldnt afford to save it for my child why not save it for another child that may need it? I have been looking into it and would love to win the free cord blood banking. I have made mention to my mom and my db's mom that i am interested hopefully I will be able to when Gage is born

It's crazy expensive to do, so instead I have donated it both times, and will again with this baby. It would seem a shame to just let it go to waste, so why not donate. Ask your OB for the forms to fill out BEFORE you go into labor though. I learned that lesson with my first born. I was in terrible pain trying to fill out the million questions on the forms about my medical history.... not fun. But you can get the forms early, and just bring them to the hospital with you.

Me and my husband have decided to bank our daughter's cord blood. Yes, it is expensive... but think about it, your baby's life is priceless. And if they never need it, it could possibly benefit your or any other children you might have. Think of it as an insurance policy! The company we're going through is amazing.. they have really good rates and payment plans.. and their staff is incredible. If you're interested, I can give you the information

It costs around $2,000 for the initial fee. And then around $100 a year for the first 18 years of the baby's life. They have various different discounts.. like for instance, we got a $400 discount off of the initial fee for being military. They have a couple of interest-free payment plans
Here's the website..
