Preemie Constipation

Okay well it has been like 3 days since my baby had a stool. She had 2 tiny ones today and it is just like she pushes to get a dirty diaper out. I was wondering is this any normal? I am so scared! I just don't want anything to be wrong with her. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do for my baby girl.

those are VERY painful to a premee, My secodn son was born at 6 months 3weeks. To get him to go to the bathroom we would get a cloth wet with warm water and massage the anus until he relaxed enough to let it come out. This is all natural and a preferd way to "force" a stool on a premee (par the neonatal doctor from sutter mermorial hospital in sac) You should try it and see if it works for you. make SURE that the rag is NOT hot! .. that would be bad.. and painful..

Massaging works pretty well, we do that with Paige when just a tiny poop has come out. Another trick our NICU nurse told us was to take the rectal temperature.... same theory, you are stimulating the anus.

The nurse also told us suppositories were okay but to only use glycerine ones, and only the very tip should be inserted.... but this is the same concept as taking the temperature, sowe usuallyget the rectal thermometerwhen it's been a day or two since we saw a poop.

my babys ped gave us two options...infant glycern suppositories...do not use a whole one on a preemie, cut it in half or into a quarter...long ways..you still need the length, just not the width. or you can use dark kayo syrup, about 1/2 tsp in her bottle. sometimes in order to get things moving you have to put it into 2 bottles in a row.

Thank you everyone i talk to her doctor this morning, and he tld me to get a q tip and put vasaline on it and insert it half way. When i did that it just all came out! My baby girl was finally able to use the rest room! thank everyone i will remember all these tricks next time.
