baby chokes everytime i breastfeed. when i pump i get abt 8 oz on eac side. so i pumped a bit before feeding so it wouldnt be squirting everywhere. should i let my milk supply die down a little bit and see if that helps? i do not want to introduce a bottle yet

i pump every 2 hrs during the day and get abt 5-6 on each side and night time i stretch it out a little more so i get the 8oz nighttime.

I had it the same way , The baby will get the hang of it and pop off the boob

when you have a let down , you will feel a tingle in the breast, or at least I have all 3 times I breast feed. I keep a receiving blanket handy and just let the stream pour onto that, used one with every feeding, made for more laundry but it cut down a lot on the choking till they got the hang of it all.

You sound like me. I was getting anywhere between 10-20 ounces when I pumped. It gets better. The engorgement stops and your breasts get soft again. Your body adjusts to what your baby needs.

a hard let down can be too much for the baby to take in.
pump to get the let down, then nurse and store the extra! that's what i had to do at first, but my supply regulated a bit in about 3 weeks. i don't even leak unless i'm super engorged now and can still pump a good bit.
it gets easier, i promise

it doesn't help that i pump though. because that imitates the baby. so its making my body think to make more milk i guess. but it takes foreverrrrrrr to pump all the way.

This happened to me a lot. Someone suggested getting him to latch on and then lean back to work against gravity. He's not choking so much now.

This happened to me for 6 weeks along with severly damaged nipples as a result of my baby girl not being able to latch properly. I also had mastitus 4 times because I was getting so engorged in between each feed. I had no idea that the problem was more common as NO ONE had the same problem and my midwife and health visitor didnt give me any support on this. They just kept saying your baby will get used to it....I carried on for a further two weeks and with another bout of mastitus and an abscess the size of my breast I had to stop breast feeding and soley express...(my choice as no one could give me any support or advice!) After only expressing my milk then dwindled to only 2 oz a day so I had to move onto formula which I was so upset about.

It is only now after reading lots and lots on this that I realise you can get support about it if you really search for it! So, I would say that if it is starting to get you down (as it did me!) get as much support as you possibly can so you can continue to breast feed your baby. Hopefully it will get better for you, but for me it just got worse and worse when I was expressing between feeds!

hope it works out for you  )
