why don't they listen? What am I doing wrong??!!

My kids only throw fits around me. Literally. I am the only parent that works and disciplines and takes care of smurf. When I am home, they act terrible at times. Scream, throw fits, if we are at JC Penneys, they throw fits. I am a pretty good mom. I do all the typical things, I actually discipline them so why is it *I'm* the one they flip out around. Everyone comments on it, I feel like I'm doing something terribly wrong. No one else does time out, talks to them at their level, follows through with what they say. I just don't get it.

How old are they & what forms of discipline do you use????

It's funny because my husband is the opposite. He is the one who does NOT discipline & Landon is horrrrrrrrrible for him! Acts out, throws fits, hits, etc. He's almost 5. I'm his teacher & am with him 99.9% of the time so I'm the one who disciplines. I always tell my husband that he has my respect and does NOT have his because of how he flakes off & doesn't do squat when he acts up other than "santa isn't bringing you toys this year!", "come here I'll spank your butt!", or just screams. I'm like that makes ZERO sense to even do.

But your story, it sounds like you DO discipline!

they are 2 and 4. I use time outs, rest time, taking away toys and privileges, I communicate with them. I am not with them as much as everyone else though and they never discipline but always act fine for them!! I try to compensate for their lack of discipline and then I'm the one being rebelled against

So those who have them while you are working do NOT discipline but when you discipline is when they act out?

It sounds like they are fine for everyone else who doesn't discipline because they are getting their way but because they know that you DO discipline & they dislike it, also want your attention, they act out anyway. It doesn't make much sense to us but I guess to a child it does. That is frustrating & I'm sorry   Your 4 year old especially should be listening! The two year old is a little more understandable but still, not appropriate.

I think you also need to have a chat with everyone else when it comes to the disciplining. Everyone needs to be on the same page. (I've been trying to get this through to my DH's head!!!)
