Fibro, arthritis?

posted 31st Jul '12
Do you have either one of these? I have had this joint pain since I was a kid, I don't remember exactly when it started but I know it was no later than when I was in 5th grade. I thought it was growing pains, but it never went away and it's just a bad pain that radiates from my shoulder to my wrist or my hip to my ankles..sometimes just hip to knee and calf or wrist to elbow.

It's constant and sometimes doesn't let up till a day later or the next day if it starts at night. My mother has arthritis, and has fibromyalgia as does her mother. I have noticed i'm very sensitive in places now...just a poke or nudge on my upper arm, or above my tailbone and lower back hurts really bad and the pain worsens after i've been poked or pushed on and feels like an instant bruise. Anyways what were you experiencing before you were diagnosed, what made you go in and talk to your doctor in the first place?

I'm the same way. I started at such a young age. My mother also has fibromyalgia so I'm wondering if I have it also. I'm constantly in pain. My hips and knees are the worst.

What you just described is what I went through. I was diagnosed with fibro this year. I have the beginning of arthritis in my knees but that could have a lot to due to my weight.

My mom has both and I'm worried I'm getting it too. My mom has it the most severe in her back and her neck and I've been barely able to function at work the last few days the pain right along my spine in my neck is. It's hard to explain but it's so painful and hard to even just sit.

Quoting Vani's Mom(15wks):" I developed rheumatoid arthritis when I got lupus"
My mother was first diagnosed with lupus, then a doctor later diagnosed her with fibro. My mom said people with lupus have been known to have fibro as well. I don't know much about either though I need to read up on it again.

I guess they told her she didn't have lupus or ruled it out and diagnosed with fibro, she think she did have it though she was sick and had chronic fatigue syndrome and was just bad off when my sister was really little and I was a kid. I hope I never get that bad   .

How were you diagnosed with lupus? My grandmother had it... My mother has fibro and they're thinking she has lupus.. and I'm worried because I'm constantly in pain.

it does sound like fibro.it took a long time like 2 yrs for them to diagnose me.and a whole lot of doctors..i have pains so bad at times and become so weak that i cant get out of the bed at all..i saw a pain specialist and a nuerologist.be careful with lyrica(the drug for fibro)because if you take it a while then miss a dose or two it has horrible side effects...the worst withdraws you can imagine..i got off of it..i good pain drug is tramadol/ultram for the pain...i am so sorry you are going through this because the pain is unbearable at times.

Blood work. But At 15 I started noticing joint pains excessively. I was always EXTREMELY tired. And I'm EXTREMELY photosensitive. Being in the sun long breaks me out an can shut my organs down/ cause an adverse reaction to my organs. Thank god my car is tinted all around limo tint because when I sit in an untinted car , I break out so bad. Enough for medicine. Also It caused nerve damage, and joint damage so I had surgery on my knee a few months after being diagnosed. 5 years later it's been ok. Until I had my son last year in July.

I had a flare , got put on meds for it for the first time in 5 years. It was really bad. When he was born I could barely move, walk, hold him. Now with this pregnancy it's getting worse even earlier. It makes my pregnancies hard. I get ultrasounds every week , I carry a antibody called anti ro SSA/SSB. Only 30% of lupus people have it. So lucky me. -__- it's made me hypoglycemic thanks to lupus. I have very low blood pressure and nearly pass out EVERY day expecially being pregnant.

My body is VERY sore every day. im OVERLY tired. Like abnormally overly tired so much. Hopefully next week at my appt they put me on meds early so I can hold my baby, and be in more comfort then with my son.
