I have it... and I have those same thoughts! The workplace its bad especially, like I always think my managers mad at me, or maybe they're thinking they shouldn't have promoted me so early, or they think I'm annoying or some other judgement.

Its actually very mentally exhausting and overwhelming :/

That sounds terrible   What exactly is BPD? Is it just kind of flying off the deep end once in a while? I don't have anything like that but i do have diabetes and its annoying as smurf lol. Plus i have a pump and it leaves this ugly scars on my stomach   I made it out of my first pregnancy with barely any noticeable stretchies but now from this needle in me 24/7 i have holes all over

I just recently found out I have that. I thought I was Bipolar for a long time, but the symptoms didn't line up right. So the hubby started researching into it, and all my symptoms lined up perfectly with BPD. It's a hard way to live, that's for sure. I sometimes act like a fool, knowing I am acting that way while I'm doing it, and can't stop myself. It's annoying.

did your bpd start as a child, teen, or adult? But 12yr old has alrady been diagnosed w/pervasive developement disorder & ''mood disorder'' but her therapist is leaning towards possible bpd or schitzo-effective disorder but said they dont use those labels for people under the age of 18.

Borderline personality disorder

Personality disorder - borderline
Last reviewed: November 15, 2010.

Borderline personality disorder is a condition in which people have long-term patterns of unstable or turbulent emotions, such as feelings about themselves and others.
These inner experiences often cause them to take impulsive actions and have chaotic relationships.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

The causes of borderline personality disorder (BPD) are unknown. Genetic, family, and social factors are thought to play roles.
Risk factors for BPD include:

  • Abandonment in childhood or adolescence

  • Disrupted family life

  • Poor communication in the family

  • Sexual abuse

This personality disorder tends to occur more often in women and among hospitalized psychiatric patients.

Symptoms

People with BPD are often uncertain about their identity. As a result, their interests and values may change rapidly.
People with BPD also tend to see things in terms of extremes, such as either all good or all bad. Their views of other people may change quickly. A person who is looked up to one day may be looked down on the next day. These suddenly shifting feelings often lead to intense and unstable relationships.
Other symptoms of BPD include:

  • Fear of being abandoned

  • Feelings of emptiness and boredom

  • Frequent displays of inappropriate anger

  • Impulsiveness with money, substance abuse, sexual relationships, binge eating, or shoplifting

  • Intolerance of being alone

  • Repeated crises and acts of self-injury, such as wrist cutting or overdosing

Signs and tests

Like other personality disorders, BPD is diagnosed based on a psychological evaluation and the history and severity of the symptoms.

Treatment

Many types of individual talk therapy, such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), can successfully treat BPD. In addition, group therapy can help change self-destructive behaviors.
In some cases, medications can help level mood swings and treat depression or other disorders that may occur with this condition.

Expectations (prognosis)

The outlook depends on how severe the condition is and whether the person is willing to accept help. With long-term talk therapy, the person will often gradually improve.

Complications

Calling your health care provider

Call your health care provider if you or your child has symptoms of borderline personality disorder. It is especially important to seek help right away if you or your child is having thoughts of suicide

Mine started when I was a teenager. That's when I first started noticing something was off. I was on pills for anxiety, depression, and Bipolar disorder. Nothing worked. Now I now why.

It is very mentally taxing and exhausting . I was trying to explain to DH that I feel emotions so strong sometimes that I can physically feel them in my body. He doesn't get it. Like... I get so mad sometimes that my chest literally hurts.

Yea, a lot of people will think they have bipolar disorder, or they'll be misdiagnosed with bipolar when really they have BPD. The thing is though, that Bipolar can be treated with meds, and BPD cannot because it is a personality, not mental, disorder. Therapy is the way BPD is treated. (although it didn't help me much! )

this is why my daughters therapist is leaning toward a personnality disorder...since all the meds we have tried for ''mood disorder'' dont work at all and because of her pdd-nos she doent grasp the concept of therapy or understand how to apply it to her life   it breaks my heart that she struggles so much......

Just Sunday morning DH and I got into a fight that lasted alllll day until the next morning due to me having BPD.

We were at church...and this girl that I SWEAR he has a little crush on (he acts really strange around her, had a picture of her and our dd in his phone, blushes, etc when she's around)

Anyway, I've brought it up to him before about her and he swears he's not attracted to her at all.

But I think he is . Could be my bpd acting up for not. Idk.
Bu anyways, we were at church, and she asked me if we were going to make it to the Rec life (a type of co-ed sports group my church has) that day. I was TRYING to answer her, when DH butt in "Oh, we're definitely going. Definitely."

I was trying to tell her if we could get a babysitter, but me being BPD is at this point thinking he butt in because he wanted to talk to her.

So after church, I brought it up to him. We got into a fight about it. It was nasty. It lasted all day and ended with him taking off at 11pm and getting back at 1 am that morning. We still were salty at each other for awhile after that.

Butttttt, I know I overreacted. But at the time, it didn't seem like it.

So yeah, BPD sucks, and the people that have relationships with us (our family friends, so's, etc) reallly have to put up with a lot . At least I know for me, the do.

Aww I'm sorry. That would be very hard to deal with. For me, it did start in my teens, but like your daughter, I wasn't diagnosed with it at the start of any therapy. I had 4 therapists, and they all thought different things. One just thought I had OCD. I wasn't diagnosed until last year, (I'm 22).
I hope things get better for your daughter, it can be a very hard thing to deal with.
