My ex husband pierced our 5 year olds ear almost 8months ago. I clean his ear every friday on the days we switch parenting time. Today my son starts crying saying his ear hurts, i take him in the bathroom to clean it and see whats going on and his earring hole is oozing nasty green puss. So i take his earring out and clean his ear really well. My son then tells me his dad never cleans is... Im not surprised. Well preston said he wanted to keep his earring out for right now and im fine with that. So i text his dad and tell him he said he wanted to keep it out and that its infected. He texts back about its because he plays with it and i dont clean it.. I have never once seen him play with it and i clean it at least twice a week.
So instead of arguing all i told him was that it may be toio much responsibility for a 5 year old if he thinks hes playing with it and its hurting him so for jow we are keeping it out like he asked. He starts freqking out about its gonna close up ajd im being stupid.. Ummm no. My son asked for it out because its hurting him. Im not going to force him to keep it. If he decides he wants it back in and the hole closes we can always repierce it.
Am i wrong in letting my son do something with his body that is preventing pain? He is 5 he knows what he wants, its not like im letting him get a tattoo but i do feel that this is his choice.

I wouldn't even care if it's "his" choice, I would remove it if it's infected! Butt yes, at that age if he doesn't want it and can't take care of it, he shouldn't have it.

i dont think youre wrong
but if its infected watch out bc if the hole closes up while its still infected it will stay in his ear

I told him we were going to leave it for today and would check it tomorrow if it looked better we would put it back in. He said he didnt want it right now because it hurt and he didnt want it tomorrow either. So i told him that was fine. I just think that after 8 months of his ear being pierced this shouldnt be happening. He is old enough and his father should help him take care of it too. He just isnt worried because it happens all the time?! Not when hes with me. Its never been like this since hes been back.
His only concern is the hole closing.. What a prick. Worry our sons ear or the pain it causes him maybe?
Sorry just ranting a bit

Oh did not know this.. Its been pierced for about 8 months now so i dont think its gonna close right away but i will make sure we at least keep it open until the infection is gone. Thank you
