Lower Left Abdominal Pain?!

posted 31st Jul '12
Ok, so since I woke up Friday morning I have been having a constant pain in my lower left abdomen. Ive gone to the hospital twice, and because I'm less then 20 weeks pregnant, they will not let me see an OB, I just get the ER Doc. Needless to say, both docs are saying I am having round ligament pain. I have two other daughters and I did not experience anything like this with either of their pregnancies. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with twins. This pain does not go away.. and only gets worse with movement. its painful to sit, lay down, walk.. anything. Its not contractions, I know that, but I really don't believe its round ligament pain. Anyone else ever experience anything like this?!

Well, since you're carrying twins, your uterus is expanding faster than it would with a singleton. Maybe it is RLP.

I agree.

Did they do an US? Do you have any previous problems with cysts on your ovaries?

No they did not do an ultrasound, and no I have never had any issues with csyts before. Its just strange because you can't touch my abdomen, it is extremely painful to touch as well... with my other two daughters I had RLP, but I would experience it when I stood up to fast, or rolled over, and the pain was very short lived, like a matter of a few seconds. This is a pain that has been constant since Friday morning.

Are you constipated?

Don't go to the ER, make an appt with your OB.

Hi yes it's normal to feel pain on your left side . The more kids you have the more pain you (may) experience with pregnancy . I am going threw the same thing . Sometimes the pain is on the left , sometimes the right and sometimes all lower . It's from the baby growing .   No worries

First of all I do not understand why they will not let you see an OB. You are pregnant regardless of how far along and problems can happen anytime. I am 19 weeks and 5 days and was in the hospital in labor and delivery most of the night saturday. As soon as I went into the ER they sent me directly up to Labor and Delivery I did not even have to wait. They hooked me up to a monitor immediately and did an internal ultra sound to check my cervix. I was having pains also which felt like contractions and I was also told I was having round ligament pains and finally sent home. It scared me too because I also have a daughter and did not have these pains with her. Hope you are feeling better soon. Good luck with everything.

Yes I experience the same pain and am prego with twins.. Sometimes it is worse then other times and sometimes it just last all day. I asked my OB again yesterday about it and she said it is normal with a twin pregnancy. I also have pain in my groin and pelvic area because they are so low. She recommended I get a belly belt. I am getting one of Friday so I will let you know how it works out. Good luck but def go to your ob just to make sure.

I saw my OB and he said the exact same thing.. and because the babies will not get along and be close to each other lol its making it worse.. They are laying side by side, one lower right, and one lower left, and each time one of them goes to visit the other, he/she gets kicked away.. was rather funny to watch on the ultrasound! He said it can last up to 4 weeks! Its just bad because sometimes I have difficulties getting outta bed, or even walking, and I have a 5y/o and a 2 y/o to care for

Funny mine are laying very similiar to yours but one keeps putting his butt in the others face. We even caught them boxing a little on the sonogram. I feel the same very difficult to get up and do anything sometimes. I have an 8 year old so she can do a lot on her own and for me :-), but she is still demanding and at times wants me to treat her like she is 5. Unfortunatly I don't think the pain is going to get better through out the pregnancy but I can hope for it. Do your hips hurt to when you sleep at night? I roll over constantly from one side to the other and rolling over hurts too. Sometimes I just think I should sleep in the recliner.

Oh yes sleeping is already getting difficult. I wake every time I roll over because of the pain. I've found propping myself up on the couch is allowing me to get a solid nights sleep, however then I have a sore back from how i'm positioned.. I didn't think It would be like this already, I thought more around like the 6 month mark,, i'm only 18 weeks!

I didn't think so early either, I kept asking the OB, my pain started around 15 weeks or so and I am 20 weeks now. It really hasn't gotten any better. Last night was bad with the tossing and turning. I hope your pain gets better but I am glad to hear someone else is going through something similiar, it makes me feel a bit normal. I can't even imagine what is in store for the next 18 weeks.

My OB warned me, he said after the 26 week mark its going to hit me like a ton of bricks. At that point he said you will really know you are carrying two babies instead of one. Hes telling me about frequent napping, and bed rest, and stopping work early and needles each time I see him to get babies lungs ready incase of preterm labor...! Lots of information, so I am just trying to take it one appointment at a time..
