re: homebirth after 2 c sections

posted 31st Jul '12
I've had two C-sections and would love to have a vaginal birth and would take every step to do so but I don't think I could risk having an unassisted home birth. Are you sure there are no certified midwives in your area or even ones who are willing to travel? Would you be willing to travel out of state.

i think i would try looking for a different doctor first? if you found out early that you're pregnant, you have plenty of time to make preparations. after having two c-sections, they're all right about rupturing. it's possible to do a VBAC. i would just try to find a doctor that understands your feelings about the situation and that is willing to help make your experience better. i really really wouldn't advise doing the unsupervised home birth. there is a reason the midwives won't do it... because there is a much higher chance of something going medically wrong and they wouldn't be able to do anything. just please look into other options for your safety.

Id look into maybe getting a midwife to assist during a hospital delivery... also getting a doula who can be your voice when you are in labor, she can help you alot, you can request to not be on all hooked up to monitors, just limited monitoring, no IV, and can walk/ use a birthing ball/. shower etc.. its been done before! .. Most homebirth midwives wont do a homebirth with 2 previous c-sections because the risks are too great, and any reputable midwife will always put your health and you babies health 1st.Doing it unassisted in your case especially seems really risky, and something that you need to think twice about... and ,maybe find a happy medium.

I am very pro-home birth, this one we are going to try and have at home with the assistance of a midwife whose been delivering babies since 1982, and I had a normal vaginal hospital birth with my daughter... but its not something I would ever even attempt if I was a higher risk pregnancy, if anything happens this pregnancy to put me or my baby at risk, you bet your ass Id be in the hospital birthing.

Quoting nursemaya -mommy to 2:" I'm guessing the chance of success is minimal reading between the lines i would guess you don't dilate, ... [snip!] ... to do an unassisted homebirth with an unproven pelvis. rock on you sound smart. I'm for VBACs, but this is just stupid"

Sounds harsh but I totally agree!
I cant comprehend why you would even choose and option with such high risks involved.
