Stop Breathing

Does anyone else have a kid that will stop breathing during a tantrum?

Yeah. I never thought so. She has done it in front of the Drs and they don't pay attention to it.
The blue thing really freaks me out. I hear of kids doing it, but they don't turn blue.

Like the others said, I would definitely get a second opinion because that doesn't sound normal. I'm sorry to hear you're going through that.

They see it a lot. With other kids they have worked with.
I am not around many kids... So I am no expert.
I googled it, and found a few threads on yahoo. Doesn't seem super uncommon.
I just don't know how these parents are so non-chalant about it.

I used to hold my breath when I was getting punished when I was a kid. It was more of an attention thing though, to try and freak my mum out. And I was older than 4, like 7 8 9. I knew what I was doing.
It sounds like your girl is having some kind of episode that doesn't sound normal, especially if she's turning blue and has no recollection of it.
I'd get a second third and fourth opinion.

damn, I just never heard anything like that ever. I would think it's an attention thing too, if she had started it later on... but 8 months makes me think wow... & her not remembering it happened? I'm no doctor though

Yeah... She was a preemie and still has issues. I don't know any other preemie moms with her condition that have had these.
The first time, DH was in Tokyo. I smurfing flipped and called 119 (japan's 911). It took them 20 minutes to respond! The beach cruser on base heard the call and came within 9 minutes. I just don't want to ever have to do that again.

No she didn't get mad as such. More scared because sometimes I'd pass out. For me it was attention or to get out of the growling. But like you said, an 8 month old has no "need" to do that for attention (lack of better phrase lol)
It sounds super scary though and I hope you get some answers!
I haven't had a prem and I wasn't prem myself so I can't comment on that

it seems to me that kids holding their breaths as part of a tantrum might not be that uncommon
but the "turning blue" part & not remembering: that's totally frightening and makes it sound like a medical condition / some kind of episode

and something that should get some medical attention
in general, anything that scares the smurf out of me as a parent or as a patient I expect to be taken seriously by my doctor
otherwise, I guess I'd look into getting a new doctor.
