re: Stop Breathing

I know a kid that does that, it has a name but I forgot, and they are on a holiday now so I can't ask his mom.
But get a second opinion, it's not normal to turn blue and roll your eyes back, that would scare the crap out of me too

I used to have a patient that did that. She would cry, turn blue & lose consciousness briefly. She had a minor heart defect.

MIL was down to visit a couple weeks ago and I was telling her about DD's tantrums, and she said when SO was little he would throw himself on the floor and hold his breath. He was about 3 she said. DD doesn't do it though...

My 4 year old has never turned blue, but she does have the problem with holding her breath when hurt/upset. She had to have an antibiotic shot last year and she cried/then held her breath to the point she passed out, right in the doctor's office. The doctor said it was normal for a child that holds their breath, it is the body's natural response when they hold their breath too long, it relaxes the body and causes them to breath again.

Quoting Hannah & Emma's Mommy:" My 4 year old has never turned blue, but she does have the problem with holding her breath when hurt/upset. ... [snip!] ... it is the body's natural response when they hold their breath too long, it relaxes the body and causes them to breath again."

Yes!! This is how they always explain it.
I just can't sit and watch though. And they say we are feeding them by giving it attention.
I did notice when we stopped "freaking" out histarically, she cut back on them.
