Is she entitled to be upset?

We live in a house technically owned by my parents, no lease agreement or anything. We pay the full mortgage, all maintenance costs, rates, bills etc she's not out of pocket at all. Unfortunately because its a new build the water, electricity, and gas bills go to her house and she's surprisingly good at not opening them. Last month when SO lost his job I applied for a payment plan online. On friday I finished the payment plan and unknown to me the electricity company sent a letter to my mum just saying that the full amount was paid.
She's now annoyed with me because I would rather organize a payment plan than ask her for money ... and she's also upset that my bill was as high as it was.

Is she entitled to be pissed off that I organized a payment plan, even though she's given me permission and had my name put on the account so that I can contact the companies myself? And does she have a right to control what electrical appliances I use and how much my bill is?

I don't think she should be mad. You did the responsible thing and dealt with it yourself. Maybe you can call them and get the mailing address changed?

No not if you are the one who is paying the bills.

I honestly don't see why she cares... If it's YOUR bill in YOUR name, it shouldn't matter...

She should be happy you were smart enough to organise a payment plan and its none ofmher damn business how much your bills are!

I think she is upset because you can impact her rating with the company. She shouldn't tell you what appliance to use and she can't control how much your bills are. The thing is that your mom has to realize that you are tennants. Maybe you should put the utilities in your name and mail them to your home. It doesn't matter if the house is a new build or not. You have an address, use it for your mail.

its still in her name because when we built the house we had to have all the utilities in her name for the builders. Now she refuses to call and have it disconnected so we can have it reconnected.

I can see her side of it, shes probably just upset that you didnt want her help. But i dont see what getting upset is gonna do about it now.. its already paid

Why doesn't she just take her name off of the accounts?

I would get the bills sent to your home now that you are established there. Avoid her all together for now.

Not all places allow that though. We live in my great grandma's house she gave to my mom before she passed. The city won't let us put utilities in our name since its my mom's house and it's not a technical rental.
