I have cut many 'friends' from my life because of this. We work to hard to get here. I can't stand people who use assistance as a career option!

i don't have a child yet but I did go through a pregnancy my sophomore year of highschool & a very painful miscarriage along with being disowned by family for being pregnant at that point in my life & quitting was one of the options I was considering at the time so that i would have a chance at a job & taking care of my child. I never said it didn't stop teens from finishing either, just that my mother herself quit only because she found out she was pregnant

Me too! It drives me nuts. I worked my ass off to get my honors diploma and I'm working my ass off to do good in college now, for my baby! And not only does it piss me off that they use it as an excuse but they get it so easy, this girl and a few others I know all have iPhones and sattelite TV and so much because they chose to use assistance as a career option. I know we'll be better off than them once we have our degrees and all but it annoys me how they take advantage of the assistance. Sorry, your rant made me wana rant!! Lol

Oh my god! Yes, although I feel it is a kick in that face to see them currently with all these 'luxury's' while I am busting my balls, only seeing LO a couple hours a week and living of no sleep!

His dad has a house, a car, a boat, 2 more children, collecting disability, his girl friend works and is collecting assistance.  it drives me up the wall !

I don't blame you, just hearing about that angers me! Lol I couldn't even explain how much people like that just piss me off!! My cousin's girlfriend is native, and any native here who lives on a reserve gets special rights like no taxes, etc.. She uses her mom's address (which is on a reserve) and says she lives there so she pays no taxes and gets a very big welfare and family allowance check while she secretly lives with my cousin and sits on her ass all day neglecting her kids, while my cousin works two jobs and has to pay for everything, she has an iPhone, a mac book, a bunch of expensive crap that she buys thanks to the assistance she gets. I don't know how he puts up with it! She walks around like she's hot smurf because she can buy the things rich people buy. Drives me insane

I get so pissed when I hear this and even more when other people tell me that *I* can't go to school when I have a child. Just when I went to sign up for classes this semester some woman told me that I should only go part-time so I wouldn't fail out. I'm better educated than most people I know and this isn't my first degree; I've been in college since my son was born and I've never gotten anything less than an A.

Not everyone had the resources to help them go to school if they are a single mother. I was incredibly lucky to have my mom to help, but not everyone does. I didn;t have a car, couldn't afford one and my financial aid did not cover any sort of daycare assistance. It's not always possible.

For the one's who are just too lazy - it's bull. There was a girl I worked with whose son is a little younger than mine and she had ZERO ambition to go to college, she was ok with flipping burgers at McDonalds as long as she had a paycheck. Whats sad is her mother was totally willing to help her, but she just refused.

I do agree it can be hard. I lived across town from my high school, which means I took a bus for an hour, and a hours after school every day, with a 3 month old baby.

Now, in College I take a 40 min bus ride to and from the College. I dont have parents to rely on, or his father to help. It maybe harder but still not impossible.

Oh okay I was just wondering.
I dont agree with people using having a child as an excuse to not finish high school. My mother stopped for one year and then went back the next and finished.
As for the college I wouldnt use having a child as an excuse for that either. I have taken some courses previously but I have no intentions of going back. Thats my personal choice though and has nothing to do with LO. I am 100% retired from working and will only be a SAHM from here on out.

serious question, what will you do if your SO leaves you or dies/becomes disabled? you have little to no resources to fall back on.
