Infant car seat versus Convertible car seat?

posted 30th Jul '12
Which one do you prefer and why?

First time mommy-to-be and I'm trying to decide which one I should get.

TIA

I've regretted the infant seat both times lol I have a convertible for my 6 month old on its way.

It's so much easier to have them in a front pack and infant seats are a waste when convertibles last longer.

I had an infant with my oldest and it was just a pain to lug that extra 10 lbs on top of baby around...both my kids are in convertibles now and it so much easier to just carry them in...and in stores in stuff with the 2 mth old i just use a carrier

Infant to me is a waste when you just have to buy a convertible anyway. I just had a carrier with both kids and the stroller. Who's to say baby won't be chunky an grow out of it faster?

We used an infant carrier with our two girls, but this time I'm thinking of using the convertible one because its just easier... its a PITA taking the infant carrier in and out of the car..

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a travel system (matching infant car seat & stroller) but the convertibles last so much longer and I feel would be more so worth the money. I'm due in October so I'm thinking I won't even need a stroller until next spring/early summer and my baby should be able to sit up in a stroller by then so I may just wait until then to get one.

Most strollers lay down flat. That's what we mainly did, just laid it down flat and had baby lay down in it. Easy and less fiddling around.

Well, it depends on what you do.

At first I was like "Oh yeah, I want just a convertible.." but it didn't work out like that, the infant seat is handy when you go places unless they have carts with an infant thing.
(I also have a 2 door car)

The infant seat is safer in a wreck.
The convertible lasts longer.

It's just a matter of personal preference

Well the shopping trolly is easy solution too.. Just have baby in a carrier. Hands free and more room in the trolly

NC winters are pretty bad right? Our winter last year was terrible my baby was born during a bad snow storm. I ended up using a front pack and keeping his car seat in the car so 1- he'd be warmer 2- no one would try touching him and 3- so I wasn't off balance on ice with the seat slipping around. Worked out so much better.

And infant seats should never go on top where big kids sit anyway far to dangerous.

they are such a pain in the ass. The LO's sit a little more comfortably in the infant seat IMO but I will probably switch at like 3 months or so.

I wish I had just gotten the convertible earlier.... but the chicco travel system is what we started with. I'm happy that I can use the chicco infant seat again for the new baby but annoyed that I will have to buy another convertible seat in 6 or so months anyway. It's a matter of preference I guess
