Help with Bullying

posted 30th Jul '12

this is my Matthew, Hes not a shy kid by any means, but He has been crying the last few days I've dropped him off to Kindergarten because hes scared and george ( which I thought was his best friend) punches him I've told the Teachers and they have watched but havent seen anything apart from an argument about a toy car. He has said this to me before than george has been punching and at kindy hes supose to say "stop it I don't like it" so we have been telling him to do that and if that doesnt work then to go to the teacher.

Matthew loves kindy normally has never cried about me leaving him before even on his first day. My hubby said why can't he just hit him back? and I dont think he should do that but I am really at a lose on what to do..Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

*at a loss.
i was told by my parents that if i got hit at school and didn't defend myself, that i would be in trouble when i got home. i was around 10-11 and had been taking karate a few yrs so my dad's logic was "what am i paying for karate for if you don't defend yourself". now that didn't mean hit back but to use the blocks i had learned. maybe get him into a martial arts defense class or something.

That does sound like a good idea because this bullying thing is not gonna stop on it own . . .he just needs to defend himself but make sure to teach him just because he can kick someones ass dosent mean he should use that as his first defense lol
Most of the time teachers and parents arent much help :/ sorry your son is going through this i bet its a horrible feeling *hugs*

Poor little guy, I know all to well how that feels. I like the idea of karate and teaching self defense.

Honestly, I agree with your husband. That shouldn't be the first action he should take, if it only happened once... Kids play rough sometimes, and once in a while someone gets hurt, and is super normal, so I wouldn't suggest it if it was only that.
BUT seriously, my daughter had the same problem in kindergarten.. There was always this one guy who bit her for no reason (when she came home I could still see the teeth on her sholder), he punches her and he even hit her with the elbow in the chest where she was blue for good 2 weeks. I told her to talk it out, tell him to stop, and tell her teacher immediately. But all they did was talk to both of them, and in fact, it didn't help a bit. She continued to come home with bruises, and the teachers obviously let this still happen, I told her if it happens again, she can hit back. Never start a fight, and don't hit back if it is a one-time thing, but if someone constantly hurts my daughter, she has my permission to hit back. She definately does not have to take crap like this, and if the teachers are incapable of doing anything, your child needs to help himself. Also, I had a serious talk to the kindergarten teacher how violent behaviour shouldn't get tolerated, and I definately am against violence, but I told her that I allowed my daughter to hit back and it is in their responsibility that SHE doesn't get it. If she does, they failed as a kindergarten teacher, cause children that age should still have a helping hand when it comes to stuff like this.
