Do you think validating their feelings is coddling them and letting them think it's okay to throw a fit? No, it's saying - hey, I understand that you're mad. I know you want to eat the grapes in the store. But they're not ours yet. It's not okay to scream in here.

There's a difference between being mad and throwing a tantrum.
If she's just pissed she can't do it, I'll explain. When the tantrum starts, I'm ignoring it.

Why do you think tantrums start? Kids get mad, frustrated, over tired, hungry, bored, etc. They don't know how to deal with these feeling and need to be taught how to act properly.

I already told the girl that I hoped her method continued to work. And I didn't make fun of anyone for having different opinions then mine. Everything I've stated is just my opinion. I don't feel the need to say demeaning things to people who don't agree with me.

I'd be a smurfing nutcase. It'd be so hard not to beat the smurf out of them if they put a hand on my child.

Yeah me too, i was trying to put it as nicely as i could when in reality i would probably freak out, and the amount of freak out would be based on how they went about it, if my child was crying or had a mark on them wellllll i'd probably leave that person crying with a few marks of their own...

I dont get what the smurf is with you people and thinking that hitting your kid is the only form of discipline.

Why do some people think spanking is the only form of discipline?
Spanking them and hitting their hands every time they do anything wrong IS bad.
Spanking's supposed to be a last resort.

i spank my children, BUT its not the only form of discipline that i use, i use time outs, standing in the corner, going to their room, and i talk to them, explain that they can't act a certain way or do certain things, spanking isn't my "go to" form discipline i haven't had to spank my children in quite a while, until today when my 4 y/o yanked a blanket out from under my almost 2 y/o and made her fall off the couch, it wasn't an accident just so you know, and it was a light pop on her booty really didn't even phase her, then i went up and talked to her about it, that she couldn't be doing that and she could have really hurt her sister if she fell on her head/neck... idk again i spank my children, not to hurt them.. and not often, and its definitely NOT my ''go to'' form of discipline like i said. i don't agree that you ''can't talk things out with a toddler'' my 2 y/o understands when i talk to her and i haven't spanked her, when i tell her something when she does something wrong she says ''ok'' or if i say she needs to stop doing something she says ''ok'' and stops, and when shes being really naughty i tell her to go to her room, guess what, she listens
