I am taking some time off work and my mom will care for my other kids for a while. He is such a sensitive child to begin with, I can't imagine how this will affect him.

I feel you ther. My son is very sensitive as well. That's why I really suggest you prepare him for it, even if he does get sad. The first surgery he had we did not tell him before hand and he was pretty upset. The second surgery he had he knew and was scared but we took movies to watch while waiting And prayed and cuddled. He handled it much better.

I would be afraid that would do more damage to his penis.

At this point he can't urinate normally, he has painful erections and will have trouble (if he is even able to) having intercourse as an adult. I think the benefits outweigh the risks in this situation.
