help!

So my son is a day old and I'm having a lot of problems getting him to sleep in the bassinet   he sleeps perfectly fine when on my chest but once I tranfer him on his back in the bassinet he instantly starts crying and fussing.

Is it okay for him to sleep on his belly in the bassinet? He seems more comfortable on his belly even in my arms.

I'm sure you've heard about the "back to sleep" movement. It's recommended to prevent SIDS so maybe you should try having him spend time on his back before he falls asleep to get used to it.

Newbs like the comfort of mommy. The smell, the warmth, and being able to hear your heart. Try swaddling him with a blanket you've had on you so he can still smell you and has that tight comfort like the womb. Some babies do prefer their tummies but I would still try and keep him on his back for now.

This!!! You honestly can't expect something that has spent 9 months inside of YOU to just come out and be self sufficient and not need your comfort to sleep. All Lo has known is your heart beat your breathing and so on and so forth.

Or you could just let him sleep with you. He is one day old. All he has ever known is you. He sound of your breathing and heartbeat and voice. Now all of the sudden you want him to sleep all alone without any of his normal sounds? For my son it was my breathing and smell. I had to lay with my face right next to his head and breath in his ear. And once he was asleep he had to have my shirt right there so it smelled like me. Swaddling is great too!!!

He's been swaddled in a baby blanket that's been on me all day and even when he's laying in bed next to me its like he's fine on his belly but as I roll him to his back he just freaks. The nurses at the hospital even had trouble getting him to relax while on his back.

They keep pushing me to make him sleep on his back but he gets so red in the face and its hard to listen to him scream the way he does

Maybe start with something that is reclined? Like the car seat or a newborn sleep and play? I forget who makes them but they can be set up right next to your bed and it props them up and I hear newborns love them. I hope I got the name right. Try to check it out if you're still struggling with the back-belly problem.

I have a newborn that is almost 2 days old and i find that putting him on his side so his back is against the basket works a treat! He settles quite quickly, you should try it but make sure to keep an eye on him whilst hes lay like this cause its harder to notice if they are sick!
