WOW!!You just described our Matty almost 100%. His speech delay they say is caused by his cleft lip/palate. He has terrible tantrums where he bangs his head off the floor/walls. Throws his toys to the point where they break. This boy broke a Tonka truck!!!

if you are concerned, the first thing i would do is get him an appt with his pediatrician, and if they seem concerned, they can refer you to a facility to have him tested. the sooner the diagnoses, the better.

I asked him, seeing as we have an autistic nephew, he said they're just tantrums no need to worry.

well, you dont need his permission to take your son to the pedi. if it did turn out to be autism, just think of all the wasted time he could have been in therapy and making huge improvements to be able to lead his life to the best of his abilities.

Good luck lady! I hope you get answers at the appointment. Our oldest daughter is 3 and was found to have a micro deletion. I have wondered about autism, she will make eye contact with us just fine, she is around kids her age at daycare but I don't get to see how she interacts with them but from what I have seen she is good at it, she just doesn't understand that she can't make them do something, and she will take things if she wants them from them without understanding ...but she tries to physically make her sister do things or she will get frustrated at her and make her sit down.

She tends to get frustrated and kind of shake for a second like she's trying to control herself, kind of how someone gets mad and makes their hands into fists and grunts or whatever...I can't figure out how else to explain it lol and it's not always that she's mad just frustrated ..she can't communicate well she doesn't use sentences yet just a handful of words. Sorry i'm rambling now but i'm wondering if there's anything else your son does or doesn't do that my daughter might have in common..I don't know if she could have autism AND the micro deletion causing her to be the way she is.

I forgot to mention I think she has SPD..her therapists would say she had sensory issues when she was younger and wouldn't touch her feet to the floor to try and stand, but when she would finally stand she had to have her knees locked back or she'd collapse. She acts different about touch, she constantly moves her hands or feet..holds the silky tag of her comfort blanket to her nose and rubs it with her fingers...spits food out or acts funny.

It was the pedi that said they were just tantrums and there was no need to worry. And just don't let him hurt him self or others.
He also said if he's still doing the head banging at his next check up we'll look in to it more.

Well i'm not saying I think your son might have it as well but you never know..it was something they found through blood work and testing through the genetics lab an hour away. It caused her to be delayed with reaching milestones she didn't do anything on time really and needed a lot of therapy to crawl and then braces on her feet to walk and she's still behind, always will be. Do you mind describing how your son acts on a regular basis? I'm just wondering if my daughter might have autism as well, a form that isn't as strong that is.
