I'm going crazy!

posted 28th Jul '12
My 15 month old does not sleep at all. Not at night, not during the day, hardly ever! She wakes up 5 plus times a night screaming. If I didn't end up giving up and sleeping with her she would probably do it all night. Nap time is unheard of over here. During the day she gets to the point of exhaustion where she gets mean. I'll try getting her to sleep but all she does is scream, kick, pull my hair, smack me. I try several times throughout the day and sometimes she may sleep 10 minutes if that. I need that hour to myself to regain my sanity! I hate saying that I can't deal with her but I'm getting to that point.

Kinda sounds like you need to be a little firmer. She knows you'll give in eventually if she keeps throwing fits. Try really sticking to it. It might take a while. But damn I would go nuts if my son didn't take a nap!

During the day I can't force her to go to sleep. I just need to figure out something that might help her. At night I've made it as far as 3am and her waking up probably 7 times. I just get so exhausted that it's harder to handle. I may just need to load up on coffee and stay up all night if I have to.

How long has this been going on?
Has she always been a poor sleeper? Does she have any GI issues that might be troubling her at night? Is she eating solids well?
We have a light sleeper - now 2.5 years old - and we've always been assessing her sleeping place, etc. You may need to change something. We found that our LO slept better if she heard some house noise - like TV, parents talking, etc...rather than a room that was too quiet.

Yes we have tried it a few times. We've let her go a ltitle over an hour and she's just about hoarse. The other night she decided to head dive out of the crib so I'm a little more cautious with that now.

For the first two months all she did was sleep. She even ate sleeping. She has never been a great sleeper. Some night she will only wake up once or twice. Other nights it's an ongoing battle. We just started her back on her AR medicine. She likes to try and make herself throw it back up though. So that has been a fight.

Did you just leave her in there crying? When I was trying to get my son to sleep in his crib I had to let him CIO buti would go back in every 5-10 min and lay him back down and and tell him it's bed time.

do you have a routine for nap/bedtime? My daughter thrives on routine, and if something messes up her routine she won't sleep well. Maybe read the same book before bedtime? we do dinner at 6, bath at 6:45 and book than bed around 7. You also may need to adjust the times she naps and goes to bed. I've had to do that a couple different times with my daughter.

We ususally don't go back and check on her. If I do it normally makes her madder.

Naptime really doesn't have a routine. We have a pretty good night routine though. Sometimes she gets up around 6 but will have milk and go back to sleep. I'm going to try just getting her up then and see how that works.

Have you looked at her diet? Sounds like she may have something in her system that disrupts the normal relaxation response or maybe something lacking.
