Kids and phone numbers. *POLL*

posted 27th Jul '12
Poll question: At around how old do kids start learning phone numbers?

DH says there's a woman at his work who says her nephew is 3 1/2 and already knows phone numbers.

DH's little sister is 6 and she still doesn't know any phone numbers

My oldest is 3yrs4months and I haven't even thought of teaching him phone numbers...he knows his full name, my name, DH's and his little brother's name. But that's as much information as he knows.

When do you think it's a good time to start introducing phone numbers, addresses, 911 etc etc?

My daughter is 4, and she knows my phone number. We practice having her get lost, and having to tell someone how to call her mommy. She knows our full names, where her daddy works, mommy's phone number, and our address (although she sometimes mixes up the numbers, she's getting better.)

My son didn't start remembering any of that information until kindergarten so I'd say 5 years is probably the average age. My almost 4 year old could care less about anything but dinosaurs.

We started teaching our daughter at about 4 and have been working with our 4 yr old son, but I found that until she had her number and letter recognition down, it was hard for her to remember the numbers. Once she learned to spell her name when she was 4-5, she was able to learn my cell phone and work numbers, as well as her dad's cell phone. She was supposed to know one of our numbers at the beginning of kindergarten, so it was an incentive for her to learn lol.

Coralynn knows my full name, dh full name, her full name, her mawmaws name, memes name. The city we live in. We have tried doing our phone number but thats a learning process right now.

some children catch on fast and it also has to do with the parents and when they teach their children.

I actually knew mine pretty young. I was three when I was with my babysitter who also had a three y/o for a playdate and she fainted so I called my house and got my dad (we lived on the same road). Lol
But my 3 1/2 y/o nephew cant barely keep all his aunts and uncles names straight let alone a phone number.

My 4 year old can tell you his full name, my full name, his Dad's full name, service, rate and rank (military) and knows our address but we haven't started phone numbers yet. Sadly enough, the only phone number I know by heart right now is my own, lol!! Everyone's numbers change so often these days I can never keep them straight.

My daughter was 2 as well when she memorized our phone number and address.
