Infant cold and cough

posted 27th Jul '12
First time my baby has had a runny nose and a cough, what is safe to give infants who are in that 7 month area? I plan on emailing her doctor, but I'd like to hear what you gals have to say.

I'd just let it run its course. Turn on the shower, let it steam up, and go sit in the bathroom to let your LO breathe in the air.

I just kind of let things work themselves out naturally though.

Just sit with the baby in a steamy bathroom, and suck out the boogers. Unless baby has a really high fever, medicine isn't necessary. They will likely get over it more quickly if you let it run its course.

I will sit in the bathroom with her then. Sounds like a good plan, but will probably do it a bit later.

There nothing you can really give her, just got to make her environment as comfortable as possible and lots of cuddles, of course

It just sucks, I hope her cough doesn't get worse. She's not as congested as I am, but colds are no fun! I guess we're not going to the rest of her swim lessons lol. I've been refusing to go for other reasons, like me being sick with a bad cold - my sinuses ache - and her not feeling well, well I guess her cold is finally turning its head and showing itself.

Poor Alice   B has a cold or allergies or something too.
Do you have a cool mist humidifier? Use that in her room while she sleeps. And when she's awake take her into the bathroom with the hot shower running. Alternating cool and warm humidity really helps. She is old enough for you to use Vicks BabyRub on her, too. You can put it on her feet, chest, and back. The feet works the best IMO just put socks on her.
If she's really snotty spray some saline spray in her nose, wait a few seconds then suck all the gunk out and use another small squirt of saline to moisturize her nasal passages.

That's the best way, IMO. Colds are stinky
DS had a cold a few weeks ago..runny nose, cough, sneezing. We didn't do anything. Just tried to make him confortable. Tons of cuddles and lovin! It went away within a couple days.

I don't have a humidifier at all.   It sucks. But I can do the saline, and vicks, I have both.

My aunt said that we need the opposite of a humidfier, since it's summer that's what causes our colds. How much humidity we're having. And when I turned on the humidfier I found in the basement [ my sister got it from my grandma ] it shows the humidity in the room, and it was at 72... but the humidfier only goes up to 65... so now I'm thinking she's just right lmfao. so now I need to invest in a dehumidfier. Money sucks.

My 3 month old just got over it. The doctor said that if the fever is less than 100 then don't treat the fever, because it actually helps fight the virus. Don't give any medication for the stuffy, runny nose or cough, just use a humidifier at night, elevate the bed when sleeping to help with breathing and use saline nose drops and suction to clear the nose. That seemed to work for my little guy. But if it lasts for more than 3 or 4 days call the doctor again.
