shaving ques TMI

posted 27th Jul '12
I have a severe skin disorder which takes up roughly 30% of my body, including my genitals. Basically my immune system thinks my skin is the enemy and attacks it, causing red inflammed patches with big build ups of hard skin. I've been on chemotherapy to lower my immune response and its worked quite well, so now I'm on a break from that and instead on a steroid cream.
After not having shaved my pubic area for months due to the sheer pain I finally decided to bite the bullet tonight and get it done so that I could get the cream on easier. Even though I used a brand new aloe vera razor and a copious amount of udder cream (recommended by my dermatologist) I still ripped off what must be the top two layers of skin leaving me bleeding and in tears. I managed to finish covered it in soothing cream and more udder cream, to let it heal before putting the steroid cream on. The redness has gone down somewhat so it looks almost normal.
SO took a look at me and said that he preferred me clean shaven and he would like me to keep it like this ... however it was agony and will be agony for the foreseeable future. I was planning on letting the hair grow and just keeping it neatly trimmed so I can access my skin with the cream.
Now I don't know what to do ... go through considerable pain and suffering to keep SO happy. Or do things my way and know that he wishes things were different?

Tell him it hurts you! If he loves you he wouldn't want you to be in pain! Just tell him that you shaved to get the cream on, but it was pure agony.

Let SO how much it hurts. You can still remain neatly trimmed and still look good. My SO uses a trimmer to keep in genitals neatly trimmed. I don't know what that would do for you, but it might help.

He should not want you to be in pain just because of his needs. Screw that. Do things how you need to do them so you're not in so much pain.

Or lord that made me cringe! I wouldnt do it if it hurt so much. Let him rip off two layers of skin and see if he would do it again!

Tell him it hurts you too much to do it. And if he complains and cares that much about your pubes, then he ain't worth it. ;)

You should never make yourself miserable to make someone else happy.

Are you able to get rid of hair any other way? I've used Nair, but I know it's really harsh and might not be good for any sensitive skin.

As for whether you should keep shaving despite the pain, I say no! That sounds awful, and you shouldn't put yourself through it when you don't have to.

Nair and any other hair removal cream causes me severe chemical burns ... me and the burns clinical found that out the hard way. Wax rips skin off and can even go as far as to tear healthy skin, the joy of steroids is that it gives you paper thin skin. I'm to scared to try laser due to the burning ... plus I doubt I'd find anyone who would do it in this case.

I would let him know how painful it was for you but that you plan on keeping it nice a trimmed for him. I would think your SO wouldn't want you in pain and ripping off layers of your skin to please him.

I hate shaving down there, i'm itchy for the next two weeks. I just use scissors now, trims it quite well and it doesn't irritate the skin.

If I shave on a regular basis I don't really get itchy down there but if I let it grow out and then shave ugh...it sucks.

Trim trim trim.

Even shaving without a condition takes a little skin off. No more shaving.
