Bible Reading Plan

posted 27th Jul '12
Okay, so a few years ago we had a thread & we read through the Bible in a year. It was a great way for accountability.

Anyone up for something like that again. I'm currently doing another plan (will happily post details if anyone is interested) but maybe just a general accountability thread?

I need it, I've been struggling.

I wanna see your plan. I need help in that department. I read through the Bible in about a year and a half and i've read here and there since, but I've been really slacking. I feel better when I read it and I know that, but then I just get busy with other things.

Right now, I'm using Professor Horner's Bible Reading Plan. I read 10 chapters a day. It isn't a "study" nor a "speed read" - but somewhere between the two. Takes me about 35 minutes a day to get through the ten chapters, and it has been *really* awesome.

This is the website for that: http://www.wbfva.org/files/professor_grant_horners_bible_reading_system.pdf

Thanks! What translation of the Bible do you read?

Up until recently I stuck with NIV. The new study Bible that was given to me as a gift is Holman Christian Standard.

I have a sweet friend who reads a different version all the way through every single year. She said it's been a very interesting experience, and she's definitely found the translations that have worked best for her. I seem to like HCS, and I'm enjoying the study I'm doing (been doing it 7 months now) but it can just be difficult! I feel like I've gotten so much out of it, but I've also never had this bad of a spiritual battle before...two total extremes.

My MIL has read several translations, although I couldn't tell you which ones. She cross-references them with each other when she studies. You can be sure to see a couple of bibles laying open when you go to her house...love it! I hate the spiritual battle, but just keep leaning on the Lord and He'll get you through!

I was in that thread! I'd be up for doing that again. Right now we're reading Crazy Love at church in our small group and I love it. Its very difficult because its convicting but its great.

Were you? It has been so long that I don't remember a lot of the "regulars" from it.

I also have a pretty cool NT plan that is supposed to help you really focus on memorizing, and grasping full context. I think it is still linked in my profile.

its amazing. But be warned, it's one of the hardest studies I've ever done. He calls you out on being a lukewarm christian. Its hard to take.
