Newborn clothes

posted 27th Jul '12
Okay so me and SO were skipping NB clothes because our daughter is just so big but now I just got a sudden random urge to buy some-because she can probably use them at first even if its not long- just until the 0-3 will fit her better.

If you were anticipating a big baby did you skip the NB till you saw them or just buy it all and go from there? Did you buy less or just get what you'd normally need and keep the tags on until you knew if you'd use it? I know I'm probably over thinking it but I just don't want tons of unused clothes if I could be buying things she'll actually really need and use.

So what do we need for NB? She's an end of September baby so it's going to get cold fast, if it isn't already when she's born. We'll more than likely have snow before she's 2 months old

We have like 2 sleepers, a shorts outfit she might never wear, a coming home outfit (if it does fit at birth), and some socks. And like 10 onesies I think, possibly less; but some are short sleeve and some are long.

my son was 9 13 at birth, so we used NO newborn clothes, I just used a ton of regular short sleeved onesies since we were in the house a lot. I had gotten a lot of free clothes from a patient so I just used what I had and what I'd gotten at the baby shower.

I'd get a few nrwborn clothes, just in case, just cuz they say he's going to be big doesn't mean he or she is

See this is kind of encouraging because some people told me their "9 or 10 lb" babies used NB clothes for months and I was so confused. But I have some hand me downs for that size, so I'm not sure. I might buy more but maybe I'll keep what I have and see how big she really is.

We made the mistake of not getting any because they told us he'd be a bigger baby. He was only 6lbs

I might buy some. What's the biggest necessities? Like, more sleepers for sure I'd say, but more onesies? I just don't really know what they wear the most that young so until we see her I'll try not to get too much.

And I know she could be smaller than they say, but I am diabetic so I'm looking at probably around 8lb at least. They were saying 10 isn't totally uncommon in some cases

That's what I'm worried about. I'm just so confused. She's measuring really big and around 2 weeks ahead. But I know that isn't conclusive either.

it's funny because there were weeks that Eli would measure a week or two behind, then the day I delivered my doc came rubbed my belly and said, ohh he's probably 7 or 7.5lbs..finally when he came out the doc said "wow, that's a big baby, where were you keeping him?!" I don't think docs ever really know lol

DH and I got enough for LO to have enough for me to wash in a load of laundry for him. Lol. He was 7lbs 9oz and wore it for 4 weeks. If he would have been smaller, I might have considered buying more but he lived in footy pajamas. lol.

Oh wow haha. That scares me. Only because they already estimate big, with the U/S measurements and weight and all. So I'm now picturing them estimating 8.5 and her being like 10+

Haha but I'm doing my best to keep my blood sugars controlled, so that she isn't totally gigantic lol.

Haha okay, so mostly like the sleepers? Lol I'm so new to this, whenever I've been around babies the clothes were there I just dressed them

But me and SO were both 7lb 6oz when we were born (I thought this was kind of funny we were the same lol); so maybe she'll follow our trend and wear them for a while haha. I just hate not knowing, I don't wanna buy tons and have her be huge, but I also don't wanna have to make a walmart run on the way home from having her because she's tiny

Lol. I didn't want a ton either and my 4 month old is our first. I did learn really fast that there are frequent clothing changes some days. Lol. From poop or spit up or pee... Mostly poop.   So we needed just enough clothes for a small load of laundry. He lived in sleepers (the term I couldn't think of earlier lol...) and the gowns when he was swaddled at night because they made the diaper changes SO much easier at night.   She's going to be tiny no matter how big she is though. lol.

Haha okay, so basically I'll just stock up on those, simple enough lol. She probably won't be going anywhere much so I won't need anything else except maybe pants, since she has some long sleeve onesies for if we do go out. And good I have some gowns, I heard they make changes easier

And I know haha. I just can't wait to see exactly what size she is.

I would have 2-4 newborn outfits just incase and leave the tags on so IF you don't use them you can take them back.. ultrasounds can be off.
my daughter was 6 pounds 11 oz and 20 1/2 inches. She wore newborn for almost 2 months.
my daughter was a clean baby. lol she almost never spit up and I think we had maybe 1 blow out. so she was able to wear one outfit all day and then switch to pj's. so for her we only needed about 7-10 "outfits". What worked great for us were onsies and those little baby gowns. made for easy diapers changes. My friends son spit up ALL the time and went through about 6 changes of clothes a day for the first few months.

we used them with all of ours. my sister in law had bought no newborn clothes because her dr said my nephew was going to be over 10 pounds. i had to go shopping at 7 in the morning the day his was born because he was 6 lbs, 4 oz lol. i would have a few, because then you don't spend a ton of money and not use them, but have them if you need them.
