VBAC Question???

posted 27th Jul '12
How long after having a Csection did you wait before getting pregnant? What did your Doctor tell you to wait if you wanted to have a VBAC? Was it a sucessful Vbac? Im just curious as to how long other women are waiting

You should wait at least a year for your body to return to normal and for your incision to fully heal. Most doctors recommend 1-3 years.

From everything Ive heard you have to wait atleast 2 years between having your csection and getting pregnant again before most doctors will even consider allowing you to attempt a VBAC. Also depending on why you initially had to have your csection plays a part in weither or not its safe to attempt a VBAC regardless of how much time has passed.

I think its at least 18mos but more is preferable
and just reacently the ACOG amended their statements to say that VBACing is a safer option than a repeat c section.
SO
If I were you, I would arm myself with A LOT of research about VBACing, because even though the ACOG is all for them now, a lot of dr's still see the $$$ repeats bring in.

Well I had my Csec 8 months ago. The reason I had to end up getting one is a long story but basically I was told to push by a newbie nurse when I wasnt 100% ready to... and I think it made me swell. Eventually his heart rate was showing signs of a little stress. They gave me the option of having a CSection or continuing on but they would have to take ogygen level tests from his blood (Making a cut in his scalp twice an hour) So I chose the Csection to spare him any pain that would cause him.
I dont plan on getting pregnant yet! Im just kinda trying to get an idea of ladies who HAVE done VBAC and what their stories are like   Just to give me an idea of kinda what to expect.

O Wow! I havnt heard that its safer to have VBAC before a repeat Cesarian! Thats AWESOME to hear! Luckily in Canada our hospital care is covered but they still PUSH PUSH PUSH for Csections to get us in and out of the Labour rooms as quick as possible :S

I had an emergency c-section w/ my first, who is 4 yrs old next month. I am now pregnant w/ my second, so I waited a good amount of time   You only have to wait 1-1.5 yrs though I think. I am aiming for a VBAC.

& yes, a lot of doctors & hospitals do push for c-sections, as they are MUCH more money than a vaginal delivery

Yes, it was recently amended, sometime this year.
BUT 10 to 1, I highly doubt a lot of obs are going to tell pregnant women that, they want the extra money that c section gives them. Just like they press inductions for before 42wks when the ACOG doesnt even recommend them until you're overdue at 42w1d
