That's what I told him. Honestly, this time I was texting a friend, but 90% of the time I'm texting my husband who's home alone with our three young children. I've only been working there four months and I told him that I've been a stay at home mom for four years and my husband is not accustomed to being home with our children and I need to stay in contact with him. He told me "we didn't have cell phones when my kids were younger". Why the smurf does that matter?

And I AM productive. Honestly, in four months, I'm their BEST closer. Barb just gave me the combo to the store safe last week and the assistant manager is the only other person who has it.

I'm pretty sure Barb doesn't even know he called....

Yes. They sit and watch us from their cell phones or tv at home. There are nights when they watch us for hours and call two to three times.

talk to the wife maybe?? esp when it comes to our kids, it is vital we have contact. i know what you mean about being a sahm and the hubby w them, i test him all the time when im at school, reminding him what to do, making sure they are ok, ect. so what they didnt have cells when he was a kid, we do now! i wouldnt tolerate it, if the wife is more sane, try talking to her.

I'm going to talk to her tomorrow and tell her I'm putting in two weeks notice and submitting a formal "resignation". I'm pretty sure she'll have no idea what happened and will ask why, and then I'll explain what happened in a professional manner and tell her I'm uncomfortable now. I'm also going to tell her, I will work my last two weeks, but if he speaks to me like that again or if I feel uncomfortable in any way, I will just walk out.

my old boss was an ass.
he only showed up to his business once a week and the manager put me on the schedule to work with him.
now i heard from other co workers that the boss was an ass that did not let you have a break or sit down.
anyways he had a bad temper. when it was slow he would blame us because there were no customers, like thats our fault right??
well he was mad already and i messed up on something at work, nothing big. And he yells at me infront of everyone and calls me stupid and was telling me to leave.

Honestly i was already pissed off at him and i didn't care that he was my boss if i was going to get disrespected. So i told him: You need to watch your temper, i don't care who you are but if you are going to disrespect me like that I will not work for you. You have no right to call me stupid or yell at me infront of your customers for something so small that is easily fixable.
He then told me that i didn't respect adults and I told him: respect is earned.

yeah i didn't get fired, i left that day and left him a lone with another co worker. he called the manager and told him to fire me because he doesn't like to fire ppl. but my manager never fired me.
I eventually quit after my manager quit

I can totally relate to this. I worked in this bar for 2 years and my boss was the nicest lady ever...until she got drunk, which was like every night. She would constantly be on my case about something, sometimes it was worthy of me getting bitched at for but most of the time it was just because she was drunk and someone else pissed her off, so she would take it out on me. I can't count how many times she has made me cry. One time I was working a Tuesday night and the place was COMPLETELY empty. I had a huge headache and I put my head in my hands and rubbed it for like 10 seconds. Apparently she walked in at that exact moment and flipped the smurf out on me. She thought I was like sleeping or something and I tried to explain to her that I was just rubbing my head, but she wasn't hearing it. She even went as far as to call me a little bitch. I honestly don't know how I put up with it for that long.

Sorry I kind of went off there haha..but to answer your question, no he should not have talked to you like that. Yes, you shouldn't have been on your phone but there is a right way and wrong way to handle that situation. I'm sure all he would of had to do was say "Hey, I saw you were on your phone and we can't be having that while you're working." and you would have happily complied. I'm sorry he went off on you, that was very unprofessional of him.

Omg thats terrible!

They might as well do the work themselves....

sounds like there's a reason why the wife usually calls. Sounds like he has an anger issue. Maybe instead of sitting around and watching cameras, they could pop in from time to time instead. Wayyyy less creepy.

Sorry that happened to you...it does not amtter if you were on the phone or not he cant talk tou you like that.

In my expierence with bosses like that is to make it clear that its ok for them to tell you when you are doing something wrong but you do not tolerate yelling and being swore at.

I personally dont care if my boss (old and new boss) did stuff like that cause I swear like a trucker and just swear back at them.
My last boss at a pizza place used to be that way she was an idiot tho. I used to just yell back at her, she tried to fire me so I threaten to report her and low and behold she made me a manager lol..

Where I work now my manger used to swear at me if I called in sick or my kids were home from school sick....I loved and hungout with her outside of work no hard feelings with her tho lol

But honestly call the labour board on her...if its the same as it is here you need I believe 5-8 complaints about them from other employees for them to do anything lol

I honestly don't even feel comfortable going back to work there. I slept on it and then I called my boss (the wife) this morning and told her I'm bringing my stuff in tonight.

She knew he called but claimed she didn't hear any of the conversation. She tried to tell me she'll tell him not to talk to me like that again and I told her I just don't feel comfortable working there anymore.

And I don't, so I'm just going to bring my things in and be done with it.

Thanks for your help ladies. This has me so upset and I just want to be done with it all. I've never just up and quit like this in my life, but it's what I feel is right and best for me. Thanks again.

you have to do what is right for you, and if your not comfortable, you shouldnt go back. if nothing else, maybe this will be a wake up call on how they need to treat their employees! now that it has cost them a good worker, maybe they will pick their battles and think twice before talking to another human being like that! good luck mamma!
