re: baby buys... all new and or hand me downs

There's some things I'd never buy used. Like a carseat, for safety reasons. And I love buying new strollers

I prefer to buy everything new. But if that financially is not an option then there is nothing wrong with second hand...though I wouldnt ever buy a car seat second hand. My younger son uses my older sons clothes and crib...and this baby will use the same crib as well. They each got their own crib bedding, and room decorations...but stuff we already had like swings, and toys and stuff they re-use...no need to WASTE money.

I am... most things that aren't new go in the trash here. I don't mind second hand books and SOME toys but other than that nope. It's literally a phobia I have.

Quoting bn3bun:" I am just wondering what you all think, I have no issue with swoping items with my family and friends ... [snip!] ... things that cant be worn out or used im just saying don't judge if you haven't seen the product... so which do you prefer ???"
lol everything I have is second hand except my car seat and boppy!! I was able to save a fortune.. I wash and sanitize EVERYTHING before it goes into the nursery. Everything we have purchased looks new and I have everything I absolutely need except diapers and wipes which everyone knows that is what I want at my baby shower. I get on these Yard sale sites that facebook has in my town and I bought 450 newborn and size 1 diapers for 20$,, No one wanted them b\c they were loose and not new in package I didn't care b\c I have priced diapers. So my mom made me a beautiful diaper stacker that will hold almost 600 diapers.. I know i will probably not use that many but it was a good deal and my neighbor just had a baby as well so i will give her some.

I take 2nd hand items from people I know well. I had a woman at work who has been a great friend of my late mother for years, told me "I dont mean to offend you, but I found these books and wanted to give them to you for your daughter." I was like, :O why would that offend me?! Apparently, gifting used (i call it "loved" items is frowned upon by some people. I'd never turn something away that can be used. We need all of the help we can get!

I have a used carseat right now just in case. Ill buy q new one I'm sure but like I said, even if I just need it to use transporting him from the hospital to.my house 2 miles away I think I'll be ok. Someone gave it to me and I can't make up my.mind on the one we want. I've got 10 weeks. To go though so I'm sure after my baby shower next week if I don't have alot to buy ill be heading to Burlington to get the one I.like.

Honestly, chuck that one and destroy it before you do. Its a complete safety hazard to use a used carseat. You have 10wks, just get a new one.

bought my DD's whole wardrobe for $75 at a yard sale newborn to 12 months I have bought her some new things but not many and they were on sale

Some of the stuff for my baby is new, like her bedding and some of her outfits. I wanted her coming home outfit to be new and I wanted her nice blankets to be new. I also wanted my breast pump to be new, which is kind of self explanatory lol. I bought her Pack 'n' Play & stroller/car seat new as well.
But my mother and I bought a lot of her clothes secondhand (which has led to her closet being extremely full ) and her bouncer, a lot of her toys and her changing table are all used.
A lot of the things that we have found at garage sales and secondhand stores look brand new (some of them even still had tags) and you end up paying a SMALL fraction of the price that you would pay for the same exact thing if it were new.
And for baby clothes, most people don't want to spend a fortune on outfits that your little one may only wear a few times because they grow out of the sizes so fast!

i did buy 2 used carseats.....they are from friends and it is a safety hazzard if they have been in car accidents. they are both practically brand new but if you buy car seats from people you dont know then that would be a safety hazzard. I personally am not against 2nd hand items. I have a almost brand new pack n play that will be her crib for a while and I shop consignment shops for clothes. i bought some clothes brand new at kohls but consignment also has practically brand new items for clothing some with the original tags on it. I grew up not with a lot of money and when i was a baby I wore boy clothes....I think just as the baby knows you love them they dont care

im a huge fan of used clothes and i think things like a swing, bouncy seat, changing table are okay used. but definitely a new car seat, bottles, and probably crib because there have been many recalls in the past few years.
