Crib bumpers

Do they pose more of a hazard? Some family members say I should buy one to ensure the babies arms and legs stay in the crib but when reading, I see alot about suffocation. Is it just another useless item?

It's useless and they are a suffocation hazard. I don't use it and DD hasn't got her arms or legs stuck on the bars.

I figured. They seem like more of a decorative item than anything to me. Thanks!

I took DS's off because he kept pushing it down any way and he is forever getting his legs and arms stuck. But I only put him in a crib when he was able to move around freely of his own will so it wasn't an issue on whether or not it is dangerous. I think it is only dangerous when they are really little and can't move easily on their own yet. KWIM?

I was told they increase the risk of SIDS and that they shouldn't be used until baby is old enough to free themselves incase they roll into them.

That makes alot of sense. Would you consider it a nessecity even when they are older?

i had a bumper made and hated the look and the thought of it so i never used it, but he also doesnt sleep in his crib at night. when i did test out his crib for a few days he is such a mover in his sleep he hits his head and gets all kinds of stuck in between the slats so i have no idea what to do now

I never used them when she was an infant, she's 18 months and recently I put them back on because DD kept getting her chubby legs stuck in the bars and i'd have to run upstairs and pull them out, I got tired of running up the stairs all night so I put them back.. but I don't think i'd use them when the baby first starts rolling around.

Yeah that's what read on multiple websites. I might just skip it to be on the safe side. Thank ya!

I was told to remove them when the baby starts rolling over in case they roll up against them. Also, when the child is old enough to stand up in the crib, they can use themt step on and fall out of the crib.

See it seems so pratical at a certain age. I guess I have a long time to consider; everyone in my family is just like "get it get it!"

Thanks for the link, this one looks like it's worth looking into.

I started using it around 5 months when DD was rolling around and getting her feet stuck in the bars. Now she's 10 months old and pulls them down when she's lying down so she can look around her room but it still helps protect her little feet when she kicks the bars hard lol.
