9 year old a lost cause

One of my FB friends posted that video about the 9 year old boy that beat the toddler up in a daycare in Mississippi. There is a whole barrage of comments saying "someone should kick the smurf out of him", "he should be thrown in jail and left there", and other things similar.

I in no way am saying that what that boy did was not disgusting and terrible. It was and the video made me sick to my stomach. The way he treated that toddler was horrible and I would be livid. But he is 9 and adults are wanting to kick the smurf out of him. When someone pointed out that he had to have experienced or seen violence of that nature then everyone started attacking them and telling them that kid will be a career criminal and is a lost cause. He is 9 years old, I have no doubt he has some really awful adult influence in his life. Do you think at 9 it is fair to say someone is a lost cause and that they are undeserving of any help at all?

I don't think it's fair to say that about anyone, no matter their age.

Did you read the article? They interviewed the boys aunt and they almost need to put some sort of translation after what she said...

I have only seen the video from on here and on FB. I haven't read the article on it.

There wan an adult right in front of him with their back turned!!! That person is the lost cause here!!!!

I agree that this child has obviously seen or been treated horribly to act that way. He needs help and counseling not told that he is a lost cause. If enough people tell him that and treat him that way, he'll believe it.

It is unfair to say that, especially about a child. I'm almost certain that his behaviour is a product of his enviroment. So, I believe he can be rehabilitated. They really should investigate that child's home.

I don't think that should be said about the child. Knowing that the child has abused younger children in the past the workers should have done more to keep a closer watch on him and keep him separated from other kids. He doesn't deserve to be put in jail etc (not that he can be) but I think his home life should be evaluated, as well as the staff working at that place. And he should go to therapy/anger management.

When did this happen? I'm lost.

Exactly, chances are that's the problem in the first place....

Sadly that was the sentiment voiced by several mamas right here on BG.  

When I saw the video I was struck not only of course with horror for the abuse against the toddlers, but also for that poor boy who has likely been abused for years. I really hope he is getting help.

That's the first thing i thought of too when i read the op

I think little boys--little 9 year olds-- need HELP, and are not lost causes.

They don't need to be thrown in jail and have the key locked away.

If it's a PATTERN of behavior then yes, maybe juvenile detention is the answer for awhile. But so is rehabilitation for the parents and family.

It is unfair to say that about a child. He is likely a product of his environment. If he goes through extensive therapy and is still acting out and having the same issues, then maybe he is a lost cause. Without any intervention, he will likely be a 'lost cause' due to the poor parenting or lack thereof he has received in his lifetime.
