No, but I plan to keep the umbilical cord attached for awhile after birth.

What's the point? Are there any benefits?

It still transfers blood and nutrients until the cord stops pulsing. Idk why they keep it attracted until it falls of though.

So the placenta doesn't rot? How would you dispose of it?

I personally wouldn't want to carry around a placenta along with my baby, it's just weird.

Hmmm that's pretty cool. I would have considered it, I guess, this is the first I've heard of it though and I think I'm done having babies, also I have scheduled c-sections and I'm not sure how that would work out, so it's probably not an option for me anyway.
I find if fascinating though!

Absolutely not. What purpose would carrying around the placenta for a week serve? I can see letting the cord pulse until done, that makes sense...but carrying around the rotting bag of baby holder. Nope, its job is done.

It doesn't hold the baby, it's the placenta. I read some things on it, it seems you have to "take care" of the placenta to keep it from smelling, and the information I read said the cord usually falls off in 2-3 days, so you aren't carrying around anything for a week, 2-3 days after birth is usually spent in bed with your baby anyway.

During that time, it continues to supply nutrients to your baby. I think more than anything, though, it's a ritual type deal.

Sorry for being dumb but this means you're basically attached to your baby for however long it takes, right? That just doesn't sound convenient. You wouldn't even be able to take a shower or anything like that without help. You wouldn't be able to even sit on a couch without having to adjust all sorts of things. Not only that but it would probably start decaying even with a little bit of fresh blood pumping through it. I would be worried about it becoming extremely covered in bacteria and causing an infection for mom or baby, especially immediately after it comes off.

No, your not attached. Just the placenta and cord are attached to baby till it falls off on its own after a few days.

Ahh okay. Now that I think about it of course you wouldn't be attached because you would deliver the placenta, lol. Duh.

... but that still sounds gross to me, and pointless. I'm all for not cutting the cord immediately and waiting until it stops pulsating but I just don't see enough benefits to leave the placenta on until it falls off, you know?
