HCG LEVELS help help help!!!

posted 26th Jul '12
Kinda on a deadline now. I scheduled the d&c for tomorrow morning. Now back in June *everything stopped growing* I was 8-9wks preggo but measuring 6wks *m/c* levels were 22,000. This Monday my levels were 82,000 (13wks supposed to be, still measured 6wks, m/c confirmed). Wednesday my levels were 76,000 (14wks supposed to be) .... Does that sound right? It's supposed to be a "blighted ovum" and I'm trying to get ahold of other dr.s for their opinions but no one is answering. If everything stopped growing in June at 22,000 WHY did my levels spike up to 82,000 and are just now dropping??

Because you still have the tissue inside of you. Your body is probably just now recognizing that it isn't a viable pregnancy, and is about to do it's thing on it's own.

Sorry for your loss.

When I had my 2 miscarriages my levels went up before they came down. They didn't go up as much as yours. I would get a hold of another doctor and get another ultrasound if you feel uneasy about it.

Usually around 12-13 weeks is when your body recognizes that the pregnancy isn't viable and then starts decreasing.

My levels carried on rising right up until I started bleeding and my pregnancy stopped developing 4wks before hand. Sorry to say but it does sound normal for a blighted ovum, BUT if you really aren't sure then get a second opinion as it will always play on your mind x

Thanks ladies looks like that's what it's doing... the levels got higher... Yeah the dr. told me at 10,000 I could expect to start bleeding/expelling maybe another 2wks after the 10,000 level yeah.. I can't wait that long. That could be another month at this rate! I just figued when stuff stops growing, levels would start decreasing, not get that high first and then go down, slow as heck. Still trying to get ahold of other dr.s for their opinions just so my mind is at ease, but it's almost lunchtime here and I'm crunched for time   Maybe dr. will do an u/s or something right before the procedure. I don't even know what to really expect- they knock you out nurse said, it's a day surgery, could be home by 4-5pm if starts at 2pm.

I would request they do an ultrasound before the procedure! GL momma

Just putting this out there.. but an ultrasound would do no good. There is zero chance of a viable pregnancy at this point.

Not necessarily slim to 0 chance? Yeah but stranger things have happened. But I got a call back from either a nurse or another OB not sure which. She said it doesn't sound right and to ask for an u/s before the procedure. She said my levels should be down to 0 or nearly to it by now not as high as they are. I mentioned a blighted ovum and she didn't say anything so idk but yeah we're gonna ask the hosp. for one beforehand. If they say no, I'll cancel my d&c and switch drs to out of town. I can't have that done without every possible last ditch effort made. What if there was a huge mistake and it was a twin or something hiding somewhere or something? Ya never know.

It couldn't be zero if you haven't started bleeding. I don't mean to sound harsh, but that nurse is an idiot.

nah that's not harsh! I appreciate the frankness of it   hope she's right but yeah she contradicts what my dr. said even though I think she's not as patient as she should be but w/e. Either way it's looking like another month before I even start bleeding   I've never heard someone's body taking so darn long to start bleeding! That would put it at nearly 4 mnths since we found out. leave it to mine to be the odd one. And another thing.. none of my drs or anyone seems concerned about infection. That strike anyone as off or there's no real risk of one?

How did your D&C go? I had one Monday and insisted they do an ultrasound before.   Hope you have very little pain and no bleeding! Good luck.

I waited in the OB office for an hour thinking I was just picking up paperwork, turns out they thought I wanted to speak with the dr. so it was a miscommunication. The staff was so nice even after I went outside for a good cry being all pissed off and upset with having to wait. (breakdown I guess). Anyways, waited in another room for an hour until the u/s room was open (2 ladies ahead of me). My dr. comes off kinda rough at first but she was really understanding. She did the u/s and after several tries she did find a 2nd yolk sac and still no heartbeats. So it'd have been identical twins   that was neat to see and helped explained why my levels were so high. She made sure I didn't feel pressured to have the d&c but Hubby and I were ready to put this behind (not forget) just able to move on from it, and try asap for another. She did the suction kind and I was knocked out like a light for hoursssssss afterwards bc of the phenegran in my system. Woke up with no pain just some bleeding, finally got discharged stopped at BK ate a whopper, onion rings, hershey's sundae pie, and out like a light soon as I hit that bed. Didn't wake up until noon-ish today. No pain still, small cramps here and there but lighter bleeding. go back Aug. 15th for pathology report results and follow up appt. At this point... our mothers are more upset than we are. They've been crying for days and us not so much. Is it different if you can see on an u/s something that resembles a fetus/embryo/baby vs empty sacs with nothing? I think that has helped us be able to move on faster than most others. That and back in June there was no more heartbeat and we saw it so detached then I guess. I do remember waking up in recovery room crying "my babies" but the dr. and nurses told me that is quite common with having to go under for such a procedure as the d&c but then I zonked back out again so Idk.
