Temper Tantrums.

posted 25th Jul '12
Someone please reassure me that I'm not the only one feeling helpless because their child is out of control with throwing temper tantrums. My 2 1/2 year old has gotten beyond ridiculous with his tantrums within the last month. We moved at the beginning of July & I figure all of the changes we have gone through are what have triggered these outbursts.

He just screams & screams & when he gets like this, there is nothing you can do to stop it. We just have to take him in his room & let him scream it out.

I actually had to walk out of the grocery store a couple weeks back & leave a cart full of groceries because I was so embarrassed. It was seriously the most embarrassing moment I have had since I had kids 5 years ago. Everyone was staring at me

I have hope because his older sister used to throw tantrums like this & she just turned 5 & I honestly can't remember the last time she had an outburst like that.

It's terrible. Two is such a difficult age, so is three though. Hell there are difficulties at all ages lol

I'm trying but I still have one more to go through after him before these terrible two's are over!

Then it won't be long before the hormonal preteen stages start with my oldest... Ahhhh! lol

My 14 year old DD was like that. Oh she'd get so worked up she would pass out too(from holding her breath). It was awful. I tried everything to get her to stop from distractions, time outs..once I was so desperate, I spanked her bottom(I felt awful for doing it). I finally discovered I just had to make sure she was safe and let her be. When she would finally calm down we'd cuddle and talk about it.
I'd like to say she grew out of it, but she didn't. The fits grew farther apart and eventually led to counseling. It's taken a lot of time and work to get where she is today.
She still has issues sometimes, but it now has more to do with puberty.

My son is going to be three in September and he is starting to grow out of the temper tantrums but when he was doing it in stores and places like that I would actually like him have his freak out in the store. Personally, I feel that if I would take him out of the store and acknowledge the tantrum, it would have been worse for him. I actually have had one lady tell me to leave a place one time because of the screaming and while I understand people like their peace, it is a public place and I feel like if it's bothering them, they should be the one to leave and not me.

Either way, the cry out method works for me. Grit your teeth and bear it

Sorry for the delayed reply. You are most certainly not alone. It might help to know that when your daughter is out of control and that is a scary way to feel. She won't be able to hear anything you say until you can validate whatever sets her off. Many other parents express the same feeling of anger, or embarrassment. Don't be afraid to ask for help!
