Support needed

posted 25th Jul '12
went in for a regular ultrasound on thursday (19th july) while there the doctor said the placenta was no longer working and the baby was on trouble. 5 hours and 1 emergency c section later Rosalie came into the world at 35w1day at 2lbs 15.9oz. Thank God she is breathing on her own. She is now at the nicu at the maternity hospital and will b moving to a childrens hosital tomorrow.. Every day is an huge struggle for me. Im in russia i dont speak the language most of the time i dont know what is going on. Im iscolated from my husband as no one is allowed in the hospital, have no supprt what so ever, and its only been 6 days. I am so mentally exhausted and start and end my day in tears. After finally having my milk come in yesterday and seeing hope in that today i got to see my baby throw it all up and was told her digestive system cant handle it. Then i was told to come back later and had to leave her while she was screaming . I'm so tired and just dont know what to do anymore and this is just the begining. Im very grateful that she is breathing on her own but this is just so hard. I havent even held her yet and dont know when il b able to do so I really would appreciate any support

congratulations on your baby!
Try not to worry about her being early. As far as premies go, 35 weeks + is great!

I'd be curious about your story: what are you doing in Russia?
Reason I ask is I'm from Ukraine originally, and live in NYC now. Just went through the NICU experience here, and it was very reassuring to have U.S. medicine brought to bear on my babies

I'm so sorry to hear that. My sister in law went through something similar and was also alone without her husband because no one was allowed in the room to be with her. She had to leave her son in he hospital for two weeks before she got to hold him because he was also throwing up her milk. I'll tell you the same thing I told her. You had the strength to have this baby and that makes you a strong mommy. Be patient and have faith that everything is going to turn out ok. Keep yourself busy so the says go by faster and you can be with your little one soon! <3 take care and remember, you are strong! You will get through this!

thanks!
my girls were much earlier, at 32 weeks. The magic marker is 36 weeks. The closer to that line you are, the better!

It's great that your daughter is breathing on her own! If she can suck on her own, you should be able to take her home very soon
I've heard / read in many places that with premies you should expect to go home no earlier than week 36. So that an average 34 weeker spends two weeks at NICU. Average 32 weeker spends 4 weeks (I did)
So hopefully, your daughter's stay will be short and sweet

Rosie is not able to suck on her own yet but im prayong that it happens soon. Did you have to wait for your baby to reach a certain weight before taking her home?

nope, my NICU didn't have a weight requirement.
Some hospitals do have them though.
