smurf.

posted 25th Jul '12
Sometimes I think my husband doesn't think about the "jokes" he says. Tonight he looked at me and said "I told you I don't like looking at you." He was joking, but it hurt so much. I am now sitting in a computer chair, hugging and crying into my pillow because of his "joke". I have major self-esteem issues and I already feel like I don't look good enough for him. I am 35 weeks pregnant and none of my clothes fit me anymore, every part of me is swollen, etc. I feel like smurf right now and has he apologized or come see if I'm okay? Nope.

I'm sleeping on the couch tonight, I'm too hurt to even sleep in the same room as him.

Men can be so insensitive. That's the one thing that really bothers me with DH, his "jokes" are sometimes REALLY hurtful. I feel bad for being so upset, but for some reason tonight that just really got me.

I was just going to say the same thing as Ruby! My husband doesn't really think before he says things a lot of the time. But as soon as he sees that he hurt my feelings or made me cry, he apologizes right away. (And feels horrible about it.)

I might try to talk to him about it tomorrow... he has to get up in 3 hours for work and knowing him, he'll stay up all night trying to make it up to me.

That sounds like a good idea. Image jokes are the worst. My husband used to say things about how big I was when I was pregnant. Mega Belly was his favorite name to call me. I used to be on the skinnier side so it always hurt my feelings. I finally broke down and cried and we had a talk about it. Now he's very sensitive towards my body and image issues. He tells me that I look great all the time. (Even though I know I don't with this 20 extra pounds I've been carrying around) And since he knows I want to lose weight he even got me the Insanity workouts. All it took was that one talk.

men can be so insensitive exspecially durring pregnacy!! they don't realize how hurtful things really are. DH kept calling me fat (i know he was playing but it hurt my feelings really bad) as i was putting on the weight & the past 2wks was talking about how i'm 20lbs lighter than him when normally i'm over 40lbs lighter, finally i had to tell him (i completely broke down crying) that i feel bad enough that not even the materinity cloths we bought barely fit & i feel like a walking whale. i think once they realize that it really hurts us they feel awful.

DH used to make little comments when i was around 26wks like "i thought buddah was supposed to be peaceful" & "calm down santa i thought you were supposed to be jolly" i could have killed him lol & ohh insanity i've been thinking about trying that after my pp checkup. has it worked any?

I so would have hurt my husband if he had said anything like that! lol
Well I just started the workouts 2 days ago. So far they're kicking my butt! I could hardly walk after the one I just did. But I know the pain means I'm getting back in shape so it motivates me even more to keep going.

eventually i started commenting on his weight gain (dh just got discharged from the army in feb so he's been really fit, awsome muscle tone, no flab anywhere until now) & one day it hurt his feelings. i looked at him & simply said, ok now do you see how i feel when you say those things to me & i have an excuse? his jokes stopped now he makes sure he clearifies hes joking lol. & i heard it was hard but you could work your way upat your own pace. ahh i can't wait to try it

lol Sounds like our husband's have the complete opposite in body issues. Mine's always pouting because he thinks he's too small and skinny. Well he does weigh less than almost everyone in his company...Even the girls. lol
Oh gosh the whole time I'm working out I'm just like "Why am I putting my body through this?!" Then after I finish I'm just like I feel great! lol

My partner is critical not about my looks but just everything else lol. He is so stubborn and has to have his own way. Men just don't get how hurtfull they can be with the smurf they say.

I say be direct and tell him exactly how he hurt you and not to do it again.

That's the great thing about living in the mountains. We hiked a lot while I was pregnant until I was put on bed rest. It kept me in great shape.
