in labor but still sent home! how long will this last?

I'm just kinda venting about my visit to the hospital today. Last night around 11 I started having contractions than noticed at around 1 I was having my bloody show, I tried to get some sleep around 3 am ended up waking up at 6 this morning and I knew I was in labor. I waited until 8 timing my back contractiins they were coming every 2 to 5 minutes, so we went into the hospital. They checked my cervix as soon as I got there and I was a tight 2, 75% effaced, they hooked me up to the contraction monitors and sure enough I was having contractions less than five minutes apart. The doctor told me to walk for an hour so I did than they checked my cervix again and I barly made progress so the nurse told me, "you're in labor and you are having contractions, but your not dilating enough to be admitted." So I was discharged. I was upset, I plan on having a natural birth anyways, but I would be more comfortable being in the hospital waiting it out. I got dischrsged St noon it's almost eight and my contractions hsve gotten way more painful, all in my back. But they're not coming as frequent. Can anyone give me a guess on how long you think this will last. I am just miserable!!

If you plan on having a natural labor, laboring at home would be best. Most likely, the hospital would have tried speeding things along if you were already 4, and not progressing fast enough. Just try to relax. Or, if you do want to try and speed your labor around, keep busy and walk around a lot. Best of luck for your labor and delivery.

Trust...it's not more comfortable in the hospital waiting it out. Enjoy your privacy and your own surroundings while you can. GL I hope you don't have too much longer.

More comfortable in the hospital? You loony toons? Anything they can DO to you to speed up labor ups your chance of epidural and cesarean. Stay home. Bounce on a yoga ball. Go swimming. Do yoga. Walk. Have sex.

How long are the contractions lasting? Even if they're coming every 2 to 5 minutes, if they're only lasting like 30 seconds, they're not doing anything.
I'd be thankful they didn't admit you. Being in the hospital for any amount of time sucks. Labouring at home is the best way to go - so much more familiar and relaxing and there's no one breathing down your neck to hook you up to monitors and annoy the smurf out of you while you're doin' your thing.
I went back and forth to my birthing center four times before they admitted me (they wouldn't admit you until you were 5 cm); I was certain I was ready each time I'd go back, but sure enough, the 30-45 second contractions were getting me nowhere. Labour lasted a total of five days.
ETA: When you're at the hospital too long, they start pushing smurf like pitocin on you, upping the risk of throwin' you into a c-section. You gotta be on their time - it's smurfed up. Stay at home as long as you can.

I was the same with my first, but after that monitoring they made me walk again for another hour and I was ready to go. I'm shocked that they sent you home like that! I hope your contractions come closer together really really soon for you that sounds like BS sorry I'd be walking nonstop if it was me, anything to bring those contractions close enough to be admitted. best of luck to you!

With all of the stress of my home life right now with family, besides fiance, the hospital is a much nicer enviorment. I tried to go for a walk and that's when I really start feeling HORRIBLE contractions. As soon as I make myself active it hurts soo bad. I have a birthing all I tried bouncing gently on but that just made my back pain constant. I feel as if all I can do is complain right now, sorry haha.

Complain away, you're in labor, you deserve to complain a little.

Well putting it like that I don't want to go in til I know fersure. I don't want any kind of drugs to speed up the process!

Oh cool I also want a natural labour in a hospital (given it's my 1st and the hospital is ages away).
For the pain I was reading that focussing on the contractions as a postive thing e.g 1 step closer till you get to see your baby and hold your baby in your arms rather than the pain (if you are focussing on the pain), walking around is supposed to help with the pain too.

see with me walking just makes the pain even worse and constant! It sucks!

That means the activity is working. Keep at it, and when you feel a contraction come on, try leaning on whatever is close by and breathing through them. Is your fiance going on these walks with you? If so, keep eye contact and have him breathe through the contraction with you. You would not believe how much eye contact (like having them right up in my face) helped me get through my contractions.

I just had DD Saturday I was in labor with contractions 3 minutes apart from Tuesday. I was discharged Tuesday and Friday they became really bad. I went back to the hospital still hadn't made any progress so they placed a cervidel in my cervix. After about 8 hours it fell out when I lost a huge chunk of mucous plug. They let me labor on my own for a few hours with little progress finally they started pitocin. After 14 hours and still no progress I was finally given a c-section. Turns out that DD's head was turned in the birth canal and wedged in there so tightly that she has a bleed on top of her head and the doctor had to use forceps to get her out of my pelvis during the c-section. My advice based on my experience if you fail to progress after about 12 hours have them check the baby's position if they had done that for me we would have gotten the c-section earlier and my daughter probably wouldn't have a 5cm bump on top of her head from being stuck in my cervix. GL mama and hopefully you have a baby soon

that's basically what happened when i was pregnant with my second.. i went in with contractions and they monitored me for a bit, then told me to walk for an hour.. basically didn't progress (i was 1-2 cm) so they told me to have a glass of wine to relax... even prescribed me ambien to help me sleep... i contracted all night long and waited until 11 the next morning to go in and when they checked me i was 7 cm
