Moby Wrap vs. Baby K'Tan

posted 24th Jul '12
I'm looking into slings ATM because I'm tired of looking up VBAC facts and and freaking myself out.
I'm mostly interested in the Moby and Baby K'tan.

Moby-The biggest issue I've seen with the moby is that its a lot of fabric and can get particularly hot. Even though baby is due in February I live in GA and it is HOT and HUMID on a regular basis. It will most likely be summer weather hot by the end of April/beginning of May and scorching by June. Baby will be 3-4 months so I know I will still be wearing him/her.
Wrapping the moby doesn't scare me...I wrap scarves on myself and my daughter on a regular basis and the video of it didn't look too intimidating. BUT the fact that it has to be wrapped before leaving the house or the ends will drag on the ground does bother me. Having to wrap it beforehand just to leave the house just seems annoying.

Baby K'tan- Cost about $20-$30 more and has to be ordered to a specific size. I'm ALWAYS in between sizes so I feel like this may not fit properly. SO will probably not be able to use it as he would need a bigger size than me. Ive also read that after 20lbs the fabric tends to get a bit stretchy and not support baby as well. Now I know all babies are different but based on my twins and their weights this would be fine for my daughter, she barely weighed 18lbs on her 1st bday. Her brother on the other hand was around 20lbs at 7 months.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

I'm going with the moby since its not sized really, and there are a bunch of different options to wear the bay...

Does the ergo offer the same amount of closeness as the moby? I've been thinking about getting both, and letting DH wear the ergo..

Isn't the Ergo $150? That seems like ALOT for a baby carrier to me. Why is it so much better?

Thats what I was leaning towards but honestly I almost pass put just walking to the mailbox at work now, so the idea of being outside with a baby and 5 meters of fabric wrapped around me next summer sounds horrible.

AGREE!!!!
They're worth the price. They go from infant to toddler. I wish I would of bought an Ergo from the beginning instead of all my other carriers. All my other carriers were great for infant but that ended really quick.

You can carry a child up to 50 lbs, so it goes from ages newborn to 50 lbs.
Comfortable and ergonomic.
Awesome support.
You can wear it in 3 different positions when baby grows.

You get what you pay for. I had the Ergo, Bjorn, Maya ring sling and Moby. I hated the Moby.

Does the second one work with a newborn? I love the idea of a Moby and babies always look so comfortable.

Thats also what I'm considering, I don't want 50 different carriers from birth until age 2.

I have a moby and we used it a couple of times... all of the fabric really IS a pain.. maybe you can get use to it, but I think i'd like to try something else next baby.
I kind of forgot I had it because of everything going on after he was born but it would've been great to breast feed in! especially in public. It really is a lot of fabric and wrapping it before getting in the car seems dumb and then wrapping it once you get somewhere just seems like a hassel!

yep it can be worn in the front boba also makes the wrap type or you can go with like a woven material a little more expensive than a Moby but more versatile

Why did you hate it? Is the Ergo more of a carrier or sling? I might not be making sense but does it support the baby from the crotch? My grace did that and my daughter always seemed like she was in the most awkward position and the weight was distributed unevenly.
