Lupus/Kidney Disease

posted 24th Jul '12
My sister Delaney was diagnosed with Lupus the beginning of the month. She was in the hospital for a while. And lost 35 lbs because of her mouth being covered with sores inside and out, it hurt to eat! They said she cant be in the sun and if she is she has to be covered. She's about to turn 15 i feel so bad for her! She also has a lot of protein in her urine. So they are also treating her for kidney disease. They are doing a biopsy of her kidneys tomorrow to see how much damage she may have :-(

Does anyone have lupus or kidney disease and have any pointers I can share with her??

My ex boyfriend's mom had Lupus. It was a horrible thing to watch.. We were together for almost two years, and she went down hill very quickly. She finally passed away in January of this year. I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say good luck..

Yes, Lupus was the main reason. I don't know all of the details, because my ex and I have been over for quite some time when she passed. But from what I gathered, she had Lupus, and cancer. The cancer had just formed, it was the Lupus and the weakened immune system that killed her.

Thank you I really appreciate that. It's frustrating as ever having Lupus. I already have to take daily shots of insulin now I have to take a shot of Lovenox everyday. I cry all the time because all of that gets so overwhelming for me. On top of having diabetes and Lupus I suffer with heart murmurs and I may have pre-eclampsia. This is my 4th child and it's a boy.

And you take these shots BC of lupus ? My sister wasnt taking any shots but she does a lot of meds. She had a really bad outbreak.

How did you find out you had it? And what did they say to do to prevent an outbreak?

Have they tested your children? They said when my sister has kids she will be high risk and her children will most likely have it too :-(

Yes the dr. prescribed me Lovenox because i'm pregnant and I dont think pills would be safe for my son. The shots however is injected into my stomach i can't inject it anywhere else but there. When I went to my first ob appointment he tested me for it because i have a sister that suffers with a pulmonary disorder which is basically a blood disorder in which the blood doesn't clot properly. I'm assuming that those 2 diseases maybe have some similarities because knowing she has the pulmonary disorder made my dr want to just be on the safe side and test me for having lupus. my results came back positive and i was referred to a high risk ob dr that deals with expectant mothers who are extremely high risk. that doctor only told me that i needed to stay out of the sunlight as much as possible especially when i have rashes because it will make it worst. there's no way to prevent a flare up because it's so unpredicatable. it can happen at anytime but exercise, controlling stress levels and eating healthy can help. My kids have a physical coming up in a couple of weeks before school starts and I'm going to have them tested then. They told me the same thing they told have told you're sister that my son maybe be born with "infant lupus" but the ok thing about that i guess is that it goes away. I may have a c-section with him because its a bigger risk having him come through the birth canal. He runs the chance of being born either blind or being born with skin rashes.

I was diagnosed with lupus when i was 15 as well. I lost a lot of weight and had slight kidney disease. They had to do a kidney biopsy as well. Once they found out i had lupus and got on medicine, it was controlled. I was on medicine for a while, but was slowly able to come off of it. You have your good days and your bad days. Its been 10 years since i was diagnosed. I have been off meds for over a year and am pregnant with my first child. So far i am doing good, no flares while pregnant. I just have to go get ultrasounds every month starting at 28 weeks.
