she is using the name HARRISON, not Harry. why dont people get that a name dos not equal it's possible nicknames!

It's just a vent. I'm worked up over because my SIL got on my nerves about it today. Wasn't trying to start an argument about it, just a vent. If you're ok with people shortening your kids name, great. I'm not. And I won't change his name to accommodate my SIL (or the 2 other people who have made the comment). And I will correct anybody that tries to shorten it, not to be an ass, but just to make them know that his name is Harrison, not Harry. They will eventually stop, but I'm just bugged by it today. And baby-gaga is a place where people can vent and *usually* find support. But then there are always the naysayers who insist on arguing with anybody and everybody just for the sake of arguing.

OK....settle gretel...if you read my post(s) it says here in Australia evryone will get their name shortened to a nickname and that she should just be happy that they are shortening it to Harry and not something horrible... My last name has Dick in it and thats what I was called What the heck does that even have to do with my first name ....I hated it and it made my school years miserable so I was saying look on the bright side it could be worse okay.....

I'm not trying to start an argument with you. There will always be people who disagree with you, I just happen to be one of them. You're going to get a lot of different opinions on any forum. If you don't want opinions post your "vent" in K&S where it belongs. If not, deal with it.

i dont think anyone was argueing they were just giving their opinions wich is also what bg is for. you get to hear both sides. No one is telling you to change his name just to know what you are in for with choosing that name. Maybe no one will ever call him harry but it could happen and prob will. Its nothing to get to worked up over.

I agree vents belong in K&S....heres is where you post to get answers from both sides....in K&S you can write whatever and noone will respond (sometimes LOL).... noones arguing just being realistic...people will not always do what you say...and yes Harrison ford is called Harrison because he is a 70 year old man not a kid...

get used to it! when he's in school kids will make up their own name for him. harry is cute! it really could be worse. When i was in HS, i hung out w/a guy named John. John insisted everyone call him Melvin.

just chill and call him harrison. If auntie wants to call him Harry, let that be her special name. People are going to shorten it wether you like it or not.

My fiance and I picked names because of the nicknames we could have for them or that the baby could pick from when they get older...Annika (Anni) and Brysun (Sunny)...I know there's more in there, but those are my favorites :-)

perhaps it is a cultural thing because here during school the teachers would always ask if we go by a different name or when someone introduces themselves they'll say "my name is Elizabeth, but I go by Beth" if not, she'll get called Elizabeth. I wasn't trying to come off as rude I just don;t think people should automatically nickname someone unless the person says they go by anything other than thier birth given name. I mean, when my daughter gets older and if she wants to be Gabby, then that's her choice, but until she can make that decision, I want people to call her what I named her, Gabriella.

really thats wierd...here everyones names get changes like this.... if your name ends in a y we will take it and if it doesnt we will add it...i.e
Molly is now Mol-Mol
Jett is now Jetty
see .... I always hated molmol for obvious reasons... but now its just her name...
oh yeah she has 2 nicknames..her full name is
Molly Alanah-Cate (and she gets called)
Molly Banana cake...because she hates it LOL..so people do it to razz her up...
I think its funny and after getting stuck with dicko and all the others...I am happy she has a "nice" nickname...

dont forget we are all pregnant and it takes soooooooo long to come up with a name.... I guess if someone tries to change it people get upset... I thought about the nickname thing alot when we were picking out names thats why we only came up with one last night (woohoo).... boys names are hard...
