By all means, don't change it if you don't want to. But get used to people calling him Harry, because it's going to happen. Either get over it, or change the name.

I have to agree, if you realy hate the name harry then its probably best to change the name. Its not just your family that will call him harry. Teachers, his friends, babysitters and other people will too.
and what if he gets to school and decides he likes the name harry, I did that to my parents. They hated the name jenni but its what i liked so everyone ended up calling me it.

My name is Nicole. That's like saying that everyone called me Nikki all the time, which no one ever did. It happened like 3 times in my whole life, and I corrected them. My husband is Will, and that's what he goes by - no one ever calls him Bill or William or anything different, and never did growing up either.

And my name is Alyson, and everyone calls me Aly. It happens. People shorten names. That's something you think about before picking a name.

I don't know...around here they just don't do that. People ask you your name and then that's what they call you. I don't really see the big deal. I would call you Allyson if that's what you told me your name was. I think nicknaming people without their consent is presumptious.

I wouldve called him Willy LOL.... yeah it might not happen but if you are so against the name then why would you use it??? you cant tell people what to do because they will always do what they want anyway... what if the baby hates the name Harrison and likes being called Harry .... i like the name Harry its cute for a little guy...like I said it could be worse..

Thanks. I agree. Nobody calls Harrison Ford Harry Ford. I'm sure his mother introduced him as Harrison and corrected people who said otherwise.

And my husbands name is Michael and we call him Michael. Not Mike or Mikey.

One of my brothers name is Joseph. Guess what, we call him Joseph, not Joe or Joey. My other brother Robert does, however, go by Robbie because that's what he introduces himself as.

Exactly, because people correct them. If you want to correct everyone who calls your son Harry, that's your decision. I'm sure nobody will go against that just to be an ass. I just don't see why you're so worked up over it. I mean, you picked the name.

just be ready to spend a lot of time correcting people. and if your family are the ones doing it be prepared for your child to get used to that name. They are going to call him what they want and it would be mean to keep your son away from them for such a insignifigant reason

Sure - if he gets to school and tells his teacher's "My name is Harry", then of course they will call him that. But I don't think that teachers, babysitters, etc. should just automatically nickname people. But its really up to the person with the name to make things straight. As in "My name is Harrison. Nice to meet you". Personally, that's what I'd call him if that's how he was introduced to me, or if that's how I saw his name on a class list, or whatever.

My mom is a teacher and when the kids register for classes, they write down their given name and any nicknames that they go by to avoid this type of confusion.
