Losing umbilical cord early.

My babies umbilical cord had been looking kind of gooey at the bottom and smelled rank. I though it was an infection but I didn't rush to the dr. because she had an appt that week (last week). He gave her an exam (including her cord) and said she was fine. That was Thursday. Saturday night her cord fell off. It still is gooey and bleeds everyday. Has this happened to anyone else?
I am not sure if she lost it early or if this is normal. I use warm salt water to clean it because I am afraid the alcohol will break down the scab and it won't heal. Any other suggestions?

the cord doesnt seem to have come off too early. thats about the right time. id call and describe whats going on and see what they suggest. i dont think its supposed to smell that bad but i wouldnt know cuz kaileys didnt smell or bleed

keep putting alcohol on it til it all dries up. It's normal trust me. It falls off in about 10 days anyway.

K dr told me average is 17 days so I freaked when it fell out earlier.
Yeah, it smelled funny.
Mom said it's cause all the moisture and what not.
Now that it fell off it doesn't stink.
Guess I am doing the first time mommy thing

oh trust me i know how you feel. i never had to put alcohol on it. they told me not to so yeah... just to keep it dry. and i do remember them saying it may be a lil oozy and may bleed a little. it just didnt happen to me

Aidens fell of early, 3 days. The doctor had us go in so he could cautarize it.

When Ryleighs cord fell off I freaked out and called her pediatrician. haha.
They said it was normal for it to look a little gross for a few days and told me just to keep cleaning it with alcohol.
