nope. it's all in their personality. if you have a kid that likes to sit or stand by you or whatever, great, super, parent of the year award to you!

if you have a little one that likes to explore and run around at 13 months old, then good luck! By the way, my son is very well behaved and can walk next to me without even holding my hand now, at 2 years old. but when he was 13-18 months old he LOVED wearing his LEASE because it gave him more FREEDOM. We also used it in the AIRPORT. Total life saver (literally).

They aren't for everyone, but don't knock parents who do use them correctly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using a leash on a kid, if it's used properly. And there is nothing wrong with someone's parenting who uses one.

To be fair, I don't like leashes either. Granted, I don't see anything wrong if someone wants to use them for their children. But me personally, I would feel weird having one on my son. And he's 3. Sometimes I let him walk with me in the store, even on occasion I haven't made him hold my hand... but he has run off before (not too far, just a few feet away) and I of course chased him and made him hold my hand until we got to the cart. And sometimes he HATES being in the cart, but like you said.. I prefer a live child to a dead or kidnapped one. That's when I tell him that I'm mommy and that what I say goes.
