My nephew was born right around 26 weeks. He was tiny little thing. He was in the hospital until his due date but he is a happy and completely healthy 11 year old now.

My friend had a baby boy at 26 weeks about a month ago. He was 2lbs 4oz. He is now doing really good, and is expected to be able to got home in a couple months. I pray the LO does good!

All I can tell you is that my brother was born around 26 weeks and he is now 33 and a pain in my ass.  Best of luck to your friend and her LO.

I follow a blog of a 26 weeker. She had a pretty rough time, but she finally came home 3 weeks ago, exactly 1 week before her 1st bday, without a vent or oxygen. Also, if you look up Team Avery, or Team Avery Jean (can't remember exactly) on fb, she was a 24 weeker I believe. Here is the link to the 26 weekers blog.. I remember watching a show---I think it was the duggar family? She had her daughter at 21 weeks I believe and survived. I believe she is 2 now?

My daughter was born at 27 weeks, she came out breathing too, but because they are so tiny, they wear out really quickly, he will probably be off the vent pretty soon, and be on CPAP, in which they are breathing on their own but the machine helps keep their lungs inflated. Most likely, the baby will drop a few ounces. It will be a long, hard road, but just tell her to keep talking to him, and if she is allowed to touch him, even just hold his tiny hand, he knows her voice and her touch the most out of everyone, and he will know its her.

The one thing I had a problem with, was I felt like I wasn't spending enough time there with my baby, and I know a lot of people feel that way, and the nurses told me, the babies have no concept of time right now, they know when you are there but they do not know when you are not there, if that makes sense.

Normal preemie things include a PDA, which is a valve in their heart that hasn't closed, sometimes they will try to let it close on its own, sometimes with meds and rarely with surgery, and a brain bleed, which I thought sounded extremely scary, but its very normal and a majority of the time it resolves on its own. Just tell her to ask any and all questions she may have to the nurses and doctors.

A friend of mine gave birth at 23 weeks, her son was 1lb 2oz & 11in long. He does have a few medical problems but he's a healthy, happy almost 3 yr old.

my daughter was born at 26 weeks she had to be on the vent for a few hours, then went to the CPAP she also let out a little cry when born which is very good! She was 1lb 10oz which is a lot more than your friends baby but weight isn't always everything, baby could do very well! I hope she is in a level 3 nicu. They do AMAZING with the micro preemies! My daughter is almost three in december and she is a very smart little girl and im not just saying that because im her mother, her dr even thinks she is very smart.
