delayed PPD?

posted 13th May
okay so my son is almost 6 months old, and he was born early with a lot of health issues, my husband was gone and i had no family out here to help me, so i just did everything ( let me infasize(sp) EVERYTHING) on my own)..never had a break... now my hubby is home and it just seems like now that i have time to think about evertything im starting feel depressed( not that i wanna hurt myself or anyone i know depressed) but i just don't wanna ever do anything, and i just don't even wanna be home with my baby or my husband (have seen him in 7 months) and i just wanna be gone and not have anyone or anything near me...

has anyone else ever experienced this?. i have an appt to go talk to someone.. but can you have delayed PPD?

I think it's possible. I'm going through something similar. I feel like I COULDN'T break down while Hayden was having all his problems and now that he's healthy and fine I sometimes feel like I'm falling apart.

I'm going to the doc for it too. I think I probably need to be on something. I felt like I had to be strong for so long and NOW these 5 horrendous months have all caught up to me.

What you might feel immediately after the birth is usually referred to as the "baby blues", but real PPD can happen any time within the first year after the baby's birth. Mine started to develop when my son was around 3.5 months old. I ended up taking Zoloft for a number of months - my doc suggested that I take it up until my son was a year old. I actually stopped a bit early, but it helped out SO much.

Dear Poster,

Not to pry, but a few days you posted about TTC#2 and possibly miscarrying - did you ever find out what was going on?

I'm not sure I would put you in the PPD catagory - but your hormones seem to be in MAJOR flux right now!!!

Hang in there!

by any chance did u have anxiety before the baby??? because i have anxiety and was taking med.. i stopped now but the dr said i have to watch out for depression because i had anxiety.. i would go talk to someone because you shouldnt have to feel like that,, there are so many people that feel the same way.. you will get threw it love jess

PPD can happen anytime up to 2 years AFTER giving birth. So it sounds like you don't have delayed PPD, just regular PPD. Join the club!!

Classic PPD includes feeling confident in your ability to care for the baby but just not having any interest to do so. Zoloft is helping me. Perhaps you should ask your ob about it?
