1st Birthday gift ideas

My daughter is turning 1 at the end of September and due to our family's tight budget I wanted to look into her presents now. I have a couple things in mind but I'm really nervous about buying her a gift that she won't even like. Any present suggestions?

she'll like anything that lights up or is colorful. She also has a short attention span so dont be hurt if she only plays with it for a few minutes  

I would suggest clothes! DD got a whole bunch of toys for her birthday, a lot of them are still brand new on their original box. She doesn't even look at them and the ones that she did, they're just tossed in the toy closet.

I just always go to like walmart and look at the toy section for the toys that say for 1 year +
