water update and question

posted 20th Jul '12
So went ahead on into labor and delivery.. I'm positive that was my water breaking this morning bc it happened more than once.. they did the test to see if it was fluid.. but it came back negative so they did an ultrasound to see my fluid levels and I was just over being low on fluid.. they said I'm not dilated enough to deliver if I am leaking fluid so I would need a c-section.. anyways they sent me home bc I wasn't quite low on fluid yet.. but really close.. they told me to come back if I kept leaking.. which I have still been since I left.. my question is has this happened to anyone else and how long would you wait before going back, if still leaking..?

I'm confused. They tested and said it wasn't your water leaking, but to come back if your water's still leaking?

Yes. She did this strip thing and told me it said maybe.. then she did something else and told me it said no.. but that they still needed to check my levels.

Trust me I'm confused too.

I had fluid leaking to the point where I would soak through my underwear and shorts I also went to L&D and they tested it. It came back negative for amniotic fluid. I went home and here I am still pregnant with a very active baby. They said it was just normal discharge or I may have had an infection. I followed up with my doctor the next day and I didnt have an infection so it was regular discharge.

Hmm. Then, I'd say keep an eye on it all day, if by this evening it's still the same leaking, then call them again.

It sounds like this when I'm sitting or laying down.. soaking through my underwear.. but when I stand up or move it gushes out of my drawers and down my leg.. its quite a bit.. that's what makes me think its water and not just discharge.. of course I'm no doctor..

this is just nuts to me.
with DS my water broke.. i was 3cm and they kept me... gave me pitocin to help speed things up.

i think if your water is broke they shouldn't let/make you leave.

it doesnt make sense that they would offer to induce u instead of a csection

my neighbor had the same thing happen and the test strips showed negative for her water breaking but it was incorrect b/c she had a doctor appt alittle over 24 hours later and they did a swab and looked under a microscope and sure enough her water had broken like she thought b/c she said when she got how she would have small leaks all day long. They went ahead and induced even though she was at risk of infection since at this point it was past 24 hours. She had her little one 5 hours later with the use of pitocin. If you water had broken I don't see why they can't us cervadil to help with dilation and then use pitocin rather than go straight to a c-section.

See, I didn't get that either.. They said that my cervix is still very "hard and unfavorable" and that even with the stuff they give you before pitocin that inducing me wouldn't make my cervix open in time, and I would need a c-section..

I'm pretty sure I don't believe that nurse and she is f'in crazy.. She couldn't find my cervix at first and made me 'tilt' when all the doctors get straight to it.. granted her hands are probably smaller..

Oh, and I don't believe they should have sent me home either.. But I guess I'm more comfortable here waiting it out than up there..

It just didn't seem right, especially being so close to being low on fluid..

Go take a walk, be active and maybe you'll dilate. You just can't have sex or take a bath if you think it's your water.
