Asthma and eczema in toddler

Hi there,

So I think I posted this in the right form. My son just came back from the hospital today from what we think is his second asthma attack (the first one they weren't sure if that is what it is). He also has had eczema since he was born. My son is going to be three in September and I was wondering if any other parents have gone through this and if so what changes in diet, household...ect that have helped out.

I use free and clear detergent for clothes. Nothing with fragrance in it. Basic soap and Aveeno lotion. My older two have asthma as well so I use the plastic allergen covers on their mattresses and pillows.

Have they checked him for allergies? My 4 ( almost 5) year old son had Terri me eczema since birth and bad allergies/ asthma

They haven't checked for allergies for yet. No doctors have ever really helped with the eczema until I talked to the doctor at the hospital. I have been fighting with doctors for a long time who keep giving me creams that don't seem to work; they wouldn't even let me see a dermatologist because they assumed that it was nothing but bad skin.

Luckily the hospital is going to do a follow up and in three months want me to go to the asthma clinic.

Find a different pedi or tell them you want a referral to see an allergist.
I took my 3yr old to see an allergist a couple months ago, he had a lot of good information for me (not that my pedi didn't help, but he went more in depth with the issues). From what he told me asthma and eczema can go hand in hand sometimes, something about the itching releases some kind of protein which then goes to the lungs, google it, I found a bunch of articles.
The allergist suggested an antihistamine every night to cut down his urge to itch, cetaphil for soap, CeraVe lotion, and a steroid cream for when its really bad.
We also use coconut oil for a moisturizer and give him a fish oil supplement (its a swirl made by a company called Barleans) both really help him a lot.
We only use free and clear laundry soap, and I did put an allergy cover on his pillow.
We have a nebulizer too just incase he needs it.
