if you take pilates you'd really like yoga, i take a hatha class and it makes you so flexible!

I have the pilates dvds. In the past, I did them religiously and didn't see much change. Maybe I'm not doing them right

Aww, thank you!

Maybe a class would work better. All I know is that I need to find SOMETHING that works. I'm dying over here!

do you have to be flexable or have good balance for pilates or yoga?  because i seriously can't touch my toes.  not even my ankles.  no one in my family can haha  we're just not flexible.  i stretch and stretch and nothing ever changes.  i've wanted to walk into the yoga and pilates classes at the gym but i'm afraid i won't be able to do anything and will look like an ass

With pilates, you don't have to be way flexible. But I've done yoga dvds before and you need to be a little more flexible for those. I think you also need to be stronger to do yoga (one of the moves on the video I watched was that you had to sit cross legged on the ground and lift your butt off the ground with your arms straight   (if that makes sense)).

pilates is more of an innerbody work out.

in order to do the moves correctly, you have to really concentrate and keep your lower back strait and your belly button in. its all about keeping your body aligned and training your small muscles to do what you want them to.

if you remember to keep your shoulders back and down, your lower back strait (meaning pretty much touching the ground when you lie down.. its not as easy as it seems), and flexing your pelvic floor (kegels) then youre golden.

its not about doing a bunch of stuff and getting it over with its more about concentrating and becoming more aware of your body and how your muscles work and loving yourself!!!!

thats why i love it so much.
if youre doing it right it should be difficult and make you shake and you should feel your body getting stronger.

i will ask my instructer today what the best DVD pilates are in her opinion, and let you girls know.

i don't think i could tell you how much i think everyone should do this!!
and no. you dont have to be flexible. every move can be adjusted to your specific needs!

pilates is my savior. lol. I love pilates. I have been doing it since...maybe 4 years. it really tones me in a way that other exercises just dont. and you dont need to do a whole lot of it to see results. I always feel so relaxed after doing it too.
Im curious about yoga..but havent taken the time to try it. have you?

i'm so happy i saw this thread! i bought a postnatal pilates dvd for getting my body back, and i just remembered i had it a couple weeks ago.

i love it!   i have managed to do the routine at least 3 days a week for the past 2 weeks, and i'm really trying to get myself into a schedule where i can work it in 5 days a week or more. it's just a very simple session but i always feel so much better afterward. relaxed, rejuvenated, etc.

how long are your sessions? and what all do you do?
